I know what you mean Scouse mate. The upside is that it gives us 2 extra recovery days especially for Murillo and CHO. It wonā€™t matter about the knock on 2 days as the next game is home against Luton when Nuno will rest key players in preparation for the biggie against Liverpool on the Tuesday.

There are, sadly, other wars available as you say, ( and of course Iā€™m saddened by all the victims of wars anywhere) but this one is right on our doorstep as you rightly say Vespa. I was talking to taxi drivers in Vienna and Bratislava a while back and they both said they could get to Kiev in around 10 hours drive.

Europeans havenā€™t liked England since the Tudors and the Reformation mate going back 500 years. Itā€™s not a new thing. Weā€™ve made it worse by winning every European War since Joan of Arcs time. And establishing a world maritime Empire and cultural dominance in language, art, governance and industry.
Those days are gone now but i'd compare us to a very spiky hedgehog Carlo rather than a duck. They might want to crush us but all the Russians would get is a handful of needles.
Remember Churchillā€™s famous speech which brought the house down in Canadas Parliament during the War.

Not to many countries around the world rolling in it. We need to understand why some countries are not doing as well as they did.
We have made matters a lot worse for ourselves, since we left the EU what things have we benefited from. All those subsidies we had, and what improvement in your area got money spent on it. If people really wanted to find out they would have done.
Its beyond our thinking, but rejoining the EU will be considered, I myself wanted the torys to have won the election because they would have to make decisions on major issues. Me, I am labour, but Starmer is not for me.

Starmer has given the Tories about half a dozen big sticks to beat him with in his first disastrous 5 months ( farmers, waspi women, pensioners, private school subscribers and thatā€™s not even including the appointment of Lammy as Foreign Secretary and ( the admittedly brilliant) Mandelson as US Ambassador.
The running sore ( as it was with the Tories) is illlegal immigration and I see a big lurch to the extreme right in 5 years time with a combined Tory and Reform Coalition in power. Farage as Prime Minister anybody?

Just finished reading Jeremy Bowens ā€œ the Making of the Modern Middle Eastā€. Heā€™s been BBCā€™ s correspondent for 30 years, reported on wars in El Salvador and Bosnia too. Suffers PTSD but bravely gone back to Gaza. Arabic speaker and if anything is very sympathic to the Palestinian cause. Heā€™s interviewed virtually all the Arab and Jewish leaders over the years.
If you want to know the mess the region is in have a read of this comrades. We are, unfortunately, mainly to blame after the British mandate and Balfour declaration which says basically the Jews have a right to a homeland but the Palestinians do too. Sort that one out if you can.

{Ed001's Note - to be fair, the USA has to take a large part of the blame - especially under Kissinger, who deliberately stirred up chaos in the region just at a time when it came close to settling down.}

Well, Stokey. According to the Western countries Israel are NOT to blame in any way shape or form. They have done nothing wrong and are only defending themselves against an 'unprovoked attack' by a bunch of crackpots. And breaking every international law in doing so. MV I agree mate. Iā€™m amazed that there is, as you say, friction on here about SC.
Iā€™ve said this a few times but SC is a great manager who will go on to achieve great things, as will Nuno. The reasons SC failed ( and Nuno is succeeding) are as obvious as the nose on oneā€™s face but Iā€™ll go over them again for those who might have short memories or are hard of thinking ā€¦.

One. SC had 2 meaningless pre seasons, promoted late via the playoffs, 40 plus new signings to assimilate ( most of them past it or never had it, all beyond his control) and signed too late to work with before both his seasons started

Two. SC had never managed in the Premiership before unlike Nuno who had extensive experience with Wolves ( and a curtailed Spurs)

Third. Nuno has much much better players to work with and a better recruitment.

Lastly, SC is roundly criticised on here for his dour tactics. In reply to this assertion I m reminded of 2 pertinent quotes
Sir Brian ā€œ Itā€™s good players than win you games, not tactics. People who talk about tactics donā€™t know what they are talking about and most of them couldnā€™t win a game of dominoes ā€œ
Tony Pulis ( responding to criticism of his dour tactics) ā€œGive me Barcelonas budget and Iā€™ll get Stoke City to play like themā€ šŸ˜šŸ¤”šŸ¤”šŸ¤”šŸ¤”.

Agree3 0Disagree

21 Dec 2024 12:04:59
Scouse, mate, itā€™s difficult to know where to start, Iā€™m afraid what youā€™ve posted is a veritable mountain of nonsenseā€¦.
Firstly, itā€™s a wild assumption on your part to think I only go to the BBC for my information. As you know from my long winded posts I read history ( including modern history and current affairs) from a wide variety of sources and authors plus first hand accounts from several people who have spent their professional lives in the Middle East ( including Syria).

Secondly, there was no US coup in Ukraine in 2014. Only a free and fair General Election in which Zelensky won 74% of the vote, which was highly problematic for Putin after his man, Victor Palenkovich was ousted earlier as President ( and is currently living in Russia).

Thirdly, why would the US try to destabilise Romania and Hungary, both allies, EU and NATO members and a buffer zone in Eastern Europe against Russian expansionism?

Fourthly, Assad launched around 300 well documented chemical and gas attacks against his 'own people'. I put quotation marks in there because although the thousands of victims were Syrians they were rebels against his minority regime. Think apartheid, mate, where the oppressed ( even though a huge majority) werenā€™t blacks but the wrong type of Muslims ( ie Sunnis).

This sort of reprisal against rebels follows a long list of similar actions through history. Examples are the Romans ( Tacitus ā€œ they create a desert and call it peace), William the Conquerors ā€œHarrying of the Northā€, the Tudors, the massacres of the Scots after Culloden and the failure of the Jacobite Rebellion, even the ā€œPunitive Raidsā€ by the British against the Pathans on the North West Frontier of India). Basically, in the minds of the unscrupulous, if youā€™re a rebel all bets are off. The only difference with Assad is that he used chemical weapons rather than starvation to achieve genocide.

Lastly, (and I mean you no disrespect Scouse and you are entitled to your opinion, demonstrably wrong though it is mate) you have to ask yourself the following question ( and you too Polly) ā€œEven with all its faults ( of which it has many, including poor political leadership, massive inequality and corruption etc) would I rather live in the UK or the West generally than find myself waking up every morning in Russia, North Korea, Afghanistan or Syria?

Whilst you are thinking about that, my friends, have a look at the weather reports for Kyiv for the next few weeks. Itā€™s cold, getting colder and they are struggling for heat and light because the Russians are bombing the power stations. Many thousands of Ukrainians, mainly the old and sick, will die. This is genocide by other means.
You will be telling me next, Scouse, that the Earth is flat and the Holocaust never happened.

2014 coup instigated by Victoria Nuland. Democratically elected ousted. Your man Zelensky is a deep State actor puppet. Closed churches, arrested political opponents, stopped elections, amassed a massive personal wealth on the back of his people's lives, bombed the Donbass because they wouldn't follow his rules of banning Russian speaking. Research also the Minsk accord, ignored by Nato and one of the reasons Putin has invaded. A fascinating documentary called Ukraine on Fire, by Oliver Stone is mandatory viewing, if you can find it.

Interesting that the Russian General assassinated was investigating US bio labs in Ukraine. Nuland denied their existence at first, then admitted in a congressional hearing they did. Pipe line disaster, that has destroyed Germany's economy? US and UK planned and likely executed by Norwegian special forces. Sanctions on Russia? Absolutely failed. All is not as it seems.

Scouse, mate, when I was a probationary PC in 1979/ 80 I went to a report of a brick thrown through a window at Chilwell. Fortunately nobody was injured and the victims said it was their next door neighbour, a pleasant young man who had never caused them any problems.
I went next door and sure enough the young man admitted chucking the brick but said that numerous people on his telly ( including the cast of ā€œCoronation Streetā€ and the ITN News anchorman Reginald Bosanquet) had told him to do it. I detained him at his home address under the Mental Health Act. I was then obliged to sit and chat with him for around 3 hours whilst waiting for the doctors to arrive and Section him. He was a polite, friendly and articulate man but he spoke often of things that couldnā€™t possibly have happened or would never happen ( helicopters arriving in his garden, a visit from David Attenborough etc).
He was so authentic and credible in his manner that by the time the doctors arrived I had started to believe him!
I think itā€™s the same with conspiracy theorists and the propagation of disinformation and fake news online. After a while you start to doubt your own sanity and the lies become the truth as in George Orwellā€™s ā€œ1984ā€

Scouse you sound like an intelligent bloke and your football related posts are first class. But what you come out with is not only demonstrably untrue but is also nonsense. Iā€™ll break it down further if you wish but it will be frustrating and pointless I feel as your mind is made up.

Iā€™ll be as quick as I can Scouse because Iā€™ve got stuff to do this Christmas Eve.
Firstly, you have achieved the rare feat, in football terms, of scoring 3 spectacular own goals in a single game. Firstly, you erroneously stated that I relied entirely on the BBC for my news sources, secondly that Iā€™m ā€œinstitutionalisedā€ and ā€œestablishmentā€. As in the Al Stewart song ā€œYou donā€™t even know meā€. Unless by reason purely of my former occupation you tar everyone with the same brush. This would amount to quite a few hundred thousand retired and serving Police Officers. You must have a huge brush and a limitless supply of tar up there in Liverpool mate. Thirdly, as for the Holocaust, well, Iā€™ll rest my case and let other posters on here decide for themselves. I think these assertions say more about your mindset than I couldā€¦. ( by the way Iā€™m not Jewish and can see both sides of the Gaza conflict historically).

Secondly, can I refer you to a BBC article ( before you jump down by throat verified by Reuters, CNN and other reputable news organisations and by Bugatti themselves) dated 3rd July 2024 entitled ā€œ A Bugatti car, a First Lady and the fake stories aimed at Americans ā€œ which deals with the Bugatti Tourbillon allegation. The fake invoice is riddled with poor spelling, inaccurate price and specs, poor English, outdated logos. Even the Paris suburb where the dealership is situated is spelt wrongly.
Ed 1 by the way, Iā€™m surprised at a man of your calibre and analytical mind can be taken in by this. Itā€™s a poor fake which even a Nigerian Prince would look down on.

Thirdly, there is no shutting down of churches, arrests of political opponents (except on embezzlement matters very similar to our MPs expenses scandal ).
The election is delayed because there are 7 million Ukrainians abroad having fled, a fifth of the country occupied and hundreds of thousands of soldiers away fighting. Also the Russians routinely bomb power stations and other civilian areas and Iā€™m sure they wouldnā€™t baulk at rocketing polling stations. Despite this opinion polls put Zekensky at 65% support.

Iā€™ll deal with the other stuff shortly if you want me to carry on debunking ā€¦ā€¦.

Agree1 0Disagree

24 Dec 2024 13:30:21
Just to finish off, if I may? ā€¦.
Hungary and Romania still have anti immigration right wing governments so your Deep State is clearly not efficient as you seem to think. You forget to mention the advance of the extreme right in Meloni s Italy, Wilders in Holland ( donā€™t even get me started in Georgia ). Even France and Germany, the main EU players are trying to cobble together an unstable and ineffective anti right wing coalition. I see Germanys alt right will be boosted by the dreadful events in Magdeburg, a city I know well. In January Trump takes over as leader of the free world and Sleepy Joe becomes yesterdays man. Your Deep State is deeply ineffective it seems. Perhaps itā€™s you that needs to keep up mateā€¦ā€¦.

As for ā€œpoking the Russian bearā€ itā€™s a fairly ragged toothless bear atm. Thousands of casualties for the minuscule advances ( actually ceding territory in some places, in a military outnumbering the Ukrainians by around 25 to 1, having to use North Koreans, private armies ( one of which marched on Moscow at one point) and the **** of Russiaā€™s jails. They also managed to get their Black Sea flagship, the Moskva, sunk in what is essentially a land war.

You ( and Polly) never answered my question about which country youā€™d choose to live in, given the choice. I d be very interested indeed.

Finally, another Police story Iā€™m afraid. During the Miners Strike in 1984, there were often downtimes when us and the pickets weren't scrapping. During these moments ( and being from the same working class background generally) weā€™d often have a hot drink and a chat. We used to point out, at all the pits and power stations, the massive mountains of coal and the fact that there were never any power cuts so what was the point of the Strike. There was a widespread answer that the coal heaps were mainly polystyrene blocks covered in a thin layer of coal and actual stocks were very low and a few more days would shut the country down. This was what King Arthur Scargill and his acolytes had told them and they believed itā€¦ā€¦
During WW2, Lord Beaverbrooke got millions of people to donate tons of scrap metal, gates, fencing, old nuts and bolts, which were assiduously collected for the purpose of melting them down to build Spitfires. Now, everybody knows you canā€™t build a Spitfire, or any other warplane from scrap metalā€¦ā€¦ā€¦
You probably see where Iā€™m going with this one Scouseā€¦ā€¦thereā€™s a fine line between challenging accepted knowledge ( which Iā€™m all for) and being gullible. Thereā€™s an old saying that some people who get conned are people who want to get conned.
Dont be that person mate.
Ive enjoyed our frank exchange of views but now I wish you and yours (genuinely) a Happy and Safe Christmas and a Peaceful New Yearā€¦.

Was interested reading through the posts about firesticks and sky tv, I read a report where a bloke was given a 3 year 4 month sentence for supplying chipped sticks, ! The mind boggles when a purveyor of child porn like the nonce Huw Edwards walks free from court, how does this work? Disgusting.

It's with sadness that I'm making this my last post, the vast majority on here are top posters then you get pollyard AKA red vespa all I asked was a simple question about where to meet legless in the TBI the reply I got was nothing short of demening bullying. I'm too old for that, don't need it and won't stand for it. I will find you in the TBI legless and I will say hello, I'm looking forward to it, but I don't have to put up with numpties like him. Keep the faith you reds.

'pollyard AKA red vespa'. I think you'll find that we are 2 different people. And as for bullying. I've no idea where you got that from. I might come over and say hello as well.

Could you clarify with me, Red Vale, which post was the 'bullying' one. Because I can't see where the alleged 'bullying' took place. The definition of bullying doesn't occur in any of the posts in question.

{Ed033's Note - Maybe this is the alleged post from Pollyard?

Stokeyred knows how to put, if you like, pen to paper due to past experience at work. I myself sometimes get the grammar twisted and mean nothing by it, and on reading my grammar again try to correct it or apologise. Hope this is just a misunderstanding, and we all look forward to some kind of result against city.
