Seeing as it was the international break is anyone on here old enough to remember the 1961 game England 9-3 Scotland? My grandad used to talk about that game and how we could have scored another 4 or 5 that day. Those were the days! Bring back the home nations, proper football for proper people. No friendlies there - though a good pint and a chat in the pub after.

Redfrog no help on the England game, I was still getting feed from a nipple, but the home internatiols was good and the County cup games, keeping a eye on Mansfields result today against wrexham.

Yes I sneaked an afternoon off school to watch that game, the goalkeeper of Scotland was Frank Haffey and that when the jokes about Scots goalkeepers started, Jimmy was unplayable that day if I remember right.
Yes the home internationals were good days real rivalry no holds barred.
CARLO.

Gosh, I was only 5!

Happy days Carlo- couldn’t imagine a game like that now. I suppose that’s the game where the unfair take on Scot’s goalkeepers comes from. I remember a few good ones like Alan Rough and Jim Leighton. Great professionals in their time.

Looked the game up, it was a Saturday but England midweek games were played in the afternoon on a Wednesday in the 50, s and I would feign illness when I came home for dinner saying I couldn’t eat it but then have it for tea.
Worked a few times.
Not overplayed prima donnas in those day earning about twice as much as my dad.
CARLO.
