Not much to add to the views expressed on here re the Spurs game.
It was the sort of result you get when a top 4 team plays a bottom 4 with a squad valued round about treble what Forest could put out. We did ok in the circumstances and the ref may well have sent Madison off for a pretty straight forward violent conduct but it gets to the stage where it's just one more horrendous decision against us to quote Danny Murphy on MOTD.
What the ref was not at fault for was Woodys miss nor the fact that we defended so deep that they were several times allowed to pass it around comfortably actually INSIDE our penalty area. This is not acceptable. Also, I would have liked to see some form of coordinated pressing as Spurs always give you a chance playing out from the back.

Secondly, I'm pleased for Matt Sels, kept us in it. Especially when you see one of our rejects Muric virtually condemning Burnley to relegation on Saturday.

Thirdly, Everton's 2 points. It's getting silly now with the appeals and the season coming to an end. I really think the Prem should cut their losses and imposed a suspended points sentence They only brought these measures in to fend off Government regulation but that's failed so there is no reason to persist with it.

Again, another great post Stokey which I think sums things up very well. I've been keeping quiet after the Spurs game to take in the reactions from everyone. I'm erring more on the side of not hitting the panic button quite yet. OK, I only watched the match on the telly - but from what I saw it wasn't all as bad as some seem to be making out. I was actually quite impressed with how we 'held our own' in the first half. OK - the second half was pretty awful as we all agree.

I just think we need to keep things in perspective. We were playing a top flight side on their patch. I was hoping for at least a draw but deep-down (as I'm sure many of you felt) - I had the feeling we would lose.

It's all down to the next two games. I've personally done a bit of soul-searching here and I've come to realise that I wouldn't be too gutted if we were relegated. I'm sick of the injustices, the gutless football and outright cheating that the PL has to offer. Whatever happens - at least the Championship is honest and exciting.

Thanks Legless. How did the mountain hike go mate?

Or should I say “yomp”!

09 Apr 2024 12:26:26
Careful stokey yomping is a Marine thing, a lot of the other lads “tab”.

Great post stokey. How does Maddison stay on the field? What a joke. Woods miss was surprising but then again have some of his incredible finishes. So I suppose it has balanced out. 2-1 with a red card would have been a nice position to be in.

It's not until the summer now Stokey. Plenty more painful training for it yet to come!

A summer trip up the mountain makes sense Legless. Thinking about it you’d be swimming up it if you went now mate! ??
Stevie, I thought “tab” was someone’s ear (Nottingham) or a cigarette ( Geordie). Not heard that one before.
I suppose “yomping” became a well known word after the Falklands. I had a Royal Marine and two Paras on my shift at Central both Falklands veterans, and they had endless debates about who got to Port Stanley first. When they asked me my thoughts as Shift Sergeant I always told them the truth which was that the first Brits into Stanley were the famous war correspondent Max Hastings ( now Sir Max) and his camera crew. He strode confidently past hundreds of Argentinian conscripts waiting to surrender to somebody, up the steps of Government House, did an interview with the Argentinian commander then strode back to British lines. Probably not the definitive answer they wanted, especially as Sir Max was ( albeit very briefly) was trained as a Para Officer but broke his leg ( I think) quite badly on his first jump. After a lengthy period of recovery and reflection he decided on a career in journalism.
Anyway, got to go, my beers getting flat…. ???.

When they had these discussions there were words and phrases which I had to have explained to me later. They kept talking about “The Green Death” which I thought was some sort of tropical disease until another member of my shift, a RN radio operator explained that it referred to the Royal Marines because of their green berets…. It was like learning a new language when they got going ……????.

I really hope Ed007 isn't on duty tonight! Little bit of useless info for those who haven't served in the military - both 'Tabbing' (Army) and 'Yomping' (Royal Marines) mean the same thing. It is forced-marching carrying a shed load of equipment on your back with a rifle in your hands. I've no idea where the RM's got the term yomping from, but tabbing in the Army is derived from Tactic Advance to Battle. There you go - probably the most boring post award coming my way for this!

{Ed033's Note - Well, you're not going to win 'Moaner of the Month' on here with that post :)
