Oh dear, the site will explode now. Bournemouth have just signed a new player. It's the end of the world I tell you. The end of the world 🀣🀣🀣.

How the heck does a club their size finish above us? Recruitment may be part of the answer.

02 Aug 2026 15:05:11
Skegs, shoelaces and ties confiscated, hopefully a fast intervention and we'll only lose a few. 🌳

It would appear that we have thesbians amongst our ranks, that's Thesbians, for the ungodly hears! Yes, Shakespeare had some wonderful words of wisdom to share, like 'lend me your ears' - obviously before earing aids! 'To be or not to be' seems to reflect the recruitment policy at the WFCG at the moment!

I do remember however, that Forest like to keep recruitment quiet, not wanting the plans revealed.

Then 4/5 signings in a matter of days! I do hope this is what's happening, and not because of indecisive thinking!

Keeff, I don't believe we're actually in for any players.
Marinakis has appointed a great coach, but Glasner needs his stamp and players.
Show the intent, don't scrimp, otherwise expect a tough season again.

02 Aug 2026 20:53:08
Red in Ripley, you seem to have it in for Marinakis; every other post you're slating him. You remind me of an old poster a couple of seasons back. I can't think of the poster's name yet. πŸ€” But I will. Mr M has moved this club on massively. I had many things to say about him when he got rid of Nuno, but that was because he didn't upgrade to a better manager.

Now we have probably one of the best in the Premier League. He got him here, that will do me. But, for some reason, you're not happy with anything he does. Like I say, reminds me of a poster from the past.

I'm expecting a trophy, Skeggs, that's what the best do, isn't it?

1

02 Aug 2026 21:24:12
What you saying then, Rogie, if Glasner doesn't win a trophy first season he's to be sacked?. 🀣🀣🀣 Rogie, the man that keeps saying we need stability and to give a manager a few seasons. Now it's 'I expect a trophy'?. πŸ€” Make your mind up, Rogie. Oh, and a prolific striker and 4 great signings. You've definitely changed your tune over the last few seasons.

Conversely, while Marinakis has achieved remarkable success for this club, his business approach is characterised by his aggressive nature. His overly enthusiastic attitude and unrealistic demands are overwhelming.
We're in talks for Diamonde and Read, which have so far taken weeks.
Diamonde was supposed to be done and dusted over a week ago. Read was all but done.
The downside of Forest is their failure to get deals over the line with low-ball prices.
This happens each year.
In essence, Forest are like tyre-kickers.
They engage in discussions and negotiations, pose inquiries, and subsequently anticipate a significantly reduced price.

All the effort and time, with little result, then turns into a panic buy situation.
We're more than happy to purchase a player for his Greek team, the purse strings widen when suited.
You are welcome to express skepticism regarding my assertion that Forest will achieve a higher league position this season compared to the previous one.
We have a coach who can take us to the next level.
Back him and success will come.
Appease him at all costs.

1

03 Aug 2026 07:59:16
Sporting are difficult negotiators. They will hold out to every last penny for Diamonde. And as for Read, Inter pulled out of buying him because he didn't pass a full medical. So maybe there's something in that. Nobody at the club, including Glasner, seems to be panicking.

So why are you? There's still weeks of the window to go, and, as I've said many times, we've managed to keep most of our top talent and extend their contracts, a big plus for me. Well done, Mr M, for that.

03 Aug 2026 08:27:18
Keefe mate, appropriately on here, the famous soliloquy, β€œ To be or not to be” is a spoken internal debate by Hamlet on whether or not to commit suicide…….

1

03 Aug 2026 10:53:56
I'm of a mind that the real quote is "To be or not to be That" which refers to Hamlet musing on what kind of person he is going to be, passive, or heroic, and take on all the problems he faces at once.

He finally chooses the latter, but then tragically everything still conspires against him and the "rotten" state of Denmark overwhelms him in the end.

1

03 Aug 2026 11:53:26
Why do "supporters" think you can just buy whoever you like straight away? What kind of club or agent just says yes to the first offer? They'd be stupid, and we'd be seriously annoyed if our club did it.

Clubs want to keep good players or get a lot of money. It's all normal.

03 Aug 2026 11:18:20
Skeg, a wise person once shared with me that engaging in a debate with someone who is unwilling to understand is a no-win situation. Therefore, with that in mind, I will continue my conversation with my fellow Thesbian friends without needing to repeat any of my previous points.
Stultis numquam altercare skeg.πŸ˜‰πŸ˜

03 Aug 2026 12:11:30
It’s an interesting theory Bse and holds some water. But in both the 1sy and 2nd Quartos the punctuation suggests a pause or at least a musing stop before β€œThat”.
But we know so little about Shakespeare anyway. However the vast difference between the rough and the polished versions do show a consistency of punctuation and rhythm of speech important for an actor,.

It seems that the individuals we frequently observe are congregating, and their behavior suggests they are colluding and mocking my associate, Stokey. Their actions are reminiscent of crows conspiring and ridiculing through heckling and scoffing.
Well I shall have my input.

A perspective that only acknowledges what one believes to be correct will obstruct the viewpoint of a humble individual.
Stokey is our sage of wisdom here, beware those who mock him as you shall reap upon you literacy beyond comprehension!

Couldn't have put it better myself, Ripley. But your wit will be lost on the ranks of the Undead mate....... πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

3

It is somewhat ironic that you mention that. I was watching "Army of the Dead" while traveling from Sharm in the early hours.

You must be shattered, Ripley. We've got a Nile cruise booked for next year, if it hasn't dried up or been rocketed by Iran.
One of the oddest experiences I've had was being on an Emirates flight back from Dubai, and idly switching on the inflight entertainment and seeing a re run game between Stoke City and Arsenal, with Ricardo Fuller and Mamady Sidibe ripping the Gunners to bits.

My wife was then teaching Ricardo's kids at her private school and knew him well, and "Mama" was (and still is) my neighbour. Both ferocious on the pitch, but absolute gentlemen off it. I think Mama's lad Suleyman ("Sol") plays abroad for PSV?

1

02 Aug 2026 11:02:30
I got some very quizzical looks when I said to my wife "Look at the screen, it's our neighbour and the Father of your kids." πŸ˜‚

2

02 Aug 2026 11:27:02
🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣 Brilliant Stokey.
Nile cruise sounds excellent. πŸ‘πŸ»

Pick on me instead. I couldn't give a monkey's hook! Buy me a player.

2

03 Aug 2026 08:34:11
I know what you mean, Cyclist, it's like water off a duck's back to me. As Bowie, with his worldly wisdom and perception, pointed out, during my 30 years in the Police, I was frequently insulted, abused and threatened by professionals, not the pussycats on here.

Face to face too, not anonymously.
I upset so many heavy-duty criminals and nutters; it's one reason why I chose to live where I live, middle of nowhere, gated community, easily defensible, and I can see my enemies coming from a long way off, mate. 😁

2

03 Aug 2026 10:10:00
As a footnote, I note that DTP mentions the name of Dyche and myself 3 times each in derogatory terms, in a single thread relating to the Murillo debate on 1st August.
I'm reminded of the lyrics from Hotel California...
"In the master's chambers, they gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives but they just can't kill the beast."...

May I remind fellow Reds that SD is the last manager but two, and was sacked nearly 6 months ago. The beast that not only can't be killed but is living rent free. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

1

03 Aug 2026 13:15:39
As always, Stokey, another great post.

1

03 Aug 2026 16:22:07
I have reason to believe you are frequently mentioned by particular posters, much like a recurring thought or idea. Living rent free like a comet traveling through a gigantic galaxy. 🀣🀣

1

03 Aug 2026 17:02:03
That's a great image, Ripley.
I'm currently reading "The Devil You Know" by Dr Gwen Adshead, a forensic psychologist based at Broadmoor.
The Latin word for the masks that actors wore in ancient times gives us the word "persona", an interesting term for people who show many different personalities to the world.

I can see where "method" actors, the descendants of our chap Thespis, comes from. The different faces that we all, to differing extents, show to the world. There are quite a few "personas" on here, some surprising, some not, mate, hiding behind the anonymity, that curse of social media in harmful cases.

2

03 Aug 2026 17:15:56
That book sounds interesting. It appears that users on this platform maintain distinct online identities, even though it is not a visually oriented site.
The persona fits very well indeed.
Your reference to method acting is interesting.
Adopting a persona or identity can be closely associated with the development of a split personality.

Take Gary Oldman as an example.
His extensive use of method acting has negatively impacted his accent throughout his career.
To regain his speech and accent, elocution experts were required to assist him with his vocal identity.

0

03 Aug 2026 17:17:46
Do you have any acting experience, Ripley? ... πŸŽπŸ˜πŸ€”

1

02 Aug 2026 08:38:18
I said on here a week ago that we always seem to struggle to get deals over the line but this business with Ousman Diamonde is different gravy apparently we risk losing him because of an impasse over add ons.

2

02 Aug 2026 10:06:43
If we lose him we didn't really want him in the first place. Mr M will not be paying out more than he has to for a player. Just cause we sold Anderson for silly money, and he has a wedge in the bank.

0

02 Aug 2026 11:05:20
The sage has spoken, seems my opinion is wrong again. πŸ˜‚

1

02 Aug 2026 11:45:34
Why have I said your opinion is wrong? It might be the case. With every bad team selection, you try and get it right, but never have. 🀣🀣 Im just saying what Glasner said in an interview, coming from his mouth, we won't be spending silly money to recruit a player, my dear Madmun.

0

02 Aug 2026 13:34:41
The only Sage Skeggs now's is the one in his stuffing.🀣.
Marinakis needs to leave the recruitment side alone.
His meddling will cause obstacles.

1

02 Aug 2026 13:55:09
Ripley, do you mean (knows)? 🀣🀣🀣 Just asking. 😁

3

02 Aug 2026 14:53:23
P.S. I didn't see anyone moaning about his meddling in the MGW transfer to Spurs. Just saying.

I did in fact mean Knows.
Void of sleep, my friend. πŸ˜‰

02 Aug 2026 08:20:11
Keep forgetting to say, although I joke Jesus can play anywhere, Dan Ndoye has the attributes of a wing back and should be coached to play there. We still should buy another wing back though.

1

02 Aug 2026 08:50:02
Ndoye could be the answer to our RWB position, as he plays there for Switzerland, but it depends whether OG wants Neco to play there, in which case we only have Luca Netz as a natural LWB.

imo, it makes sense to play both Williams and Netz on their natural side if they are expected to put crosses in the box.

2

02 Aug 2026 10:31:01
Yes, I think Ndoye could do us a job. He's played in that position for us but can't remember when or who against. Managed not to get injured, oddly enough.....

1

02 Aug 2026 14:28:15
Was against Middjytland in October.

Think he might have scored.

1

02 Aug 2026 06:02:12
Great managerial appointment, utterly laughable recruitment. Big M needs to sort this out or we will be in real trouble again. I just can’t understand how teams like Bournemouth and Brighton operate so effectively in the transfer market yet we seem to struggle so badly. It’s obvious we need recruitment in at least three key positions. Glasner won’t put up with this for long.

3

02 Aug 2026 08:34:04.
I mentioned this in a separate post and received significant criticism. It is quite embarrassing. I believe the low offers being circulated are hindering our progress and allowing other clubs to gain an advantage.
Forest appears hesitant and has demonstrated limited intent or ambition thus far.

But when the first love of Marinakis needs a player, we end up paying for the privilege.
Some posters here believe, without additional players, we will finish higher than last season. Unbelievable and delusional.
No wonder Glasner has a payout clause. Smart move!

4

02 Aug 2026 23:14:48
Ripley . We won't be starting the season with no new players.

We will finish higher than last season. Keep up the pessimism, someone has to do it.

Every summer the same. Most clubs hold out for the most money they can get... Fans get jittery and start crying because their owner won't throw money away. Seen it all before... At least we aren't starting the season with a Judas who will try to get themselves fired for a big payout and a better job...

1

01 Aug 2026 19:40:40
I sense at the conclusion of OG’s post-match interview on Forest TV after the Sporting Lisbon defeat, that his patience with the slowness of incoming transfers is wearing a bit thin.
The brilliant Confederate Cavalry Commander Nathan Bedford Forrest is attributed with the famous quote on the basic aim of warfare, which is β€œto get there fastest with the mostest.”
Our recruitment is neither, and we don’t appear to have learnt from previous sluggish pre-seasons.

My opinion on incomings hasn’t changed. Four maximum. Bergvall for Ando, whatever it costs, beef up the goalkeeper department, Diomande from Sporting, a ball-playing dominant centre back and Mateta if he’ll come, otherwise I’d stick with Wood and Taiwo, then review things in January.
As a long shot, if we don’t get Diomande, take a gamble on the fitness of John Stones, one-year contract with option of extension?
Schlager is a freebie so doesn’t count imo.
Thoughts?

01 Aug 2026 20:28:33
Bring Dyche back quickly. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

2

01 Aug 2026 20:32:27
We need at least one wing back.

1

01 Aug 2026 20:54:23
We need a Dyche back. πŸ˜πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

1

01 Aug 2026 20:58:41
Perhaps ideally 67, mate. But we are flexible, as Nico and Aima are comfortable right and left, plus we have Netz. In emergency, Murillo can play left wing back, although, according to some people, playing out of position can cause serious injury...

0

01 Aug 2026 21:03:12
Murillo can play left wing back? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

2

01 Aug 2026 21:09:34
Stones gone. Keep up.

2

01 Aug 2026 21:14:05
How dare you tell Google Stokey to keep up? πŸ˜πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

2

01 Aug 2026 21:15:36
Moreira?

0

01 Aug 2026 21:46:03
Honestly.

Murrillo is not a wing back.

However, Ndoye has played there for Switzerland.

Maybe Cho, Hutchinson, and Bakwa might even be used there occasionally if we are chasing a game. We seem to have a lot of wingers in the squad for a coach who doesn't use them.

1

01 Aug 2026 22:02:34
We all know Murillo can't play left back or centre midfield barring a few, 67. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

1

01 Aug 2026 22:17:50
He is our most talented centre back.

I doubt you hear Liverpool fans suggesting Van Dyke should play full back.

Or, back in the day, Ferdinand and Terry.

3

01 Aug 2026 22:21:38
Always said the same, 67.

0

01 Aug 2026 22:55:32
"In emergency" are the key 2 words there, I think. I never mentioned centre midfield at all.
Obviously, at the University of Life, they don't teach reading or physiotherapy in relation to injuries caused by playing football in a different position.

I'd ask for my money back.
Obviously, if I'd used Google, I could have checked the John Stones situation, but I found it causes less problems to just guess...

2

01 Aug 2026 23:03:11
John Stones went there days ago, Stokey.
I've been camping in a field, but knew that.
Quit trying to be clever, it really don't suit. πŸ˜‚

1

01 Aug 2026 23:10:22
Murillo obviously "can" play left wing back because he has. Can't you remember? Perhaps it's you that should keep up?
Also, there you go again speaking on behalf of everybody. "We all know".... really? Typical dictatorial mindset.
Bse, Ferdinand, Terry and Van Dyck were such talented players, they could play anywhere in theory, but they were specialists at centre back, and lacked Murillo's pace (but were exceptionally good in the air), therefore not as versatile as our man.

I thought you'd have recognised that tbh.

2

01 Aug 2026 23:23:10
You've seen Murillo play there, so have we all, and he didn't want to. Did you see that, Stokey?

2

01 Aug 2026 23:27:55
He played there once against a very poor Malmo team.

I think he will be needed at centre back when available. We need to get that Diamonde deal done. I like Cunha, but the thought of Morato being a starter week in week out doesn't fill me with confidence.

2

02 Aug 2026 07:06:32
Morato should never play again, I've seen barges turn quicker.

1

02 Aug 2026 08:15:48
Murillo has the ability to play any position. He's so versatile, he's already completed the Kama Sutra. Not sure whether he has the stamina to play box-to-box wing back though.

We definitely need another wing back, Stokey, if we are going to play a back 3.

Wing backs can't play 100 minutes every game covering that many yards, so you need two fit on each flank.

Ideally, a good number 9 and midfielder are needed, and a CB. GK isn't a priority.

1

02 Aug 2026 08:41:37
Agreed with most of that Cyclist, as per my original post mate. OG will be assessing our back up wing backs Netz and Moreira and deciding whether we need Read ?
GK will suddenly become high priority if Sels becomes unsvailabke and we are faced with the nightmare of Victor in goal week in and week out……
DTP, are you in contact with Murillo? Did he tell you he didn’t want to play at left wing back? If not, who did he tell? Or is it another β€œeverybody knows this” fabrication.

Honestly, I’m glad I never had to follow you into the witness box at Crown Court mate πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ«£
Why are you camping in a field ? Has the house and garden been repossessed? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

2

02 Aug 2026 11:12:46
I mentioned in a previous post (which you and Bse have conveniently forgotten, or couldn’t read) that I pay very little attention to the dozens of players linked to us over the window. Unless they are actually incoming, I’ll read a summary when it’s all done and dusted, if it involves our immediate opponents.
Typically, small-minded to try to make a federal case out of it.

1

02 Aug 2026 12:21:35
We should have put Murillo in as coach instead of Dyche. He would have definitely done a better job. 🀣🀣🀣

1

01 Aug 2026 18:30:19
On the Nottingham Live match report it says Sarah Clapson is an experienced sports reporter. Her ratings for Zak Abbott, McAtee and Jesus of 5/10, 8/10, 8/10 reflects that she doesn't know what she is talking about. These journalists could end up getting our club relegated with their talking players up in pre-season matches. My ratings based on what I saw: Abbott 0/10, McAtee 3/10, Jesus 4/10.

With Jesus demonstrating, as he did last season, when he gets the ball he can't run nor beat players. Very happy about the Schlager signing - he looks a skilful, mobile, hard working player like Gibbs-White but we need more better players and to get rid of the one's that nearly got us relegated last season.

1

01 Aug 2026 19:15:56
It's gonna be a long season, RHR. We ain't even kicked off yet, and you're that down, they have taken your shoelaces & tie off you already.

4

01 Aug 2026 19:19:22
Abbott looked like someone they'd found outside the ground, asked if they fancied a game cus they were one short.

2

01 Aug 2026 19:26:09
We're doomed, I tell yer, we're doomed.
Experiment to see every player in preseason, two in one day.
Chill.

0

01 Aug 2026 19:27:45
We need new blood. Maybe a couple of players, just enough to lift what we have. It's all well and good being about value for money and sell-on value, but if Mrm wants European football next season, then we have to bring in the best of what's available. Otherwise it's going to be the same old story: "Well, we only lost by one nil, better luck next time." One nil or four nil doesn't matter.

We have to have a squad that can beat the best, or don't bother. Build your fantasy stadium, but see what good it does you in the Championship.

Stop slagging off Jesus. He's a part of the Holy Trinity. Clough, Taylor, and Jesus. He will keep improving even if he isn't first choice. I think he will be playing as one of two No 10s, not as a number 9.

0

01 Aug 2026 17:19:30
Wood probably lost a yard, bless him. Still a legend for me, and still be used for height.
Jesus needs a yard and cannot be reliable for height.
Leaves us mgw to score.
Bottom half struggle for me. Unless Glasner had this lot training at Hogwarts over the summer.
Come on the lot of ya, face it.

Nothing negative at all dtp, optimism isn't a belief that things will automatically get better, it's a conviction that things can get better.

3

01 Aug 2026 18:42:08
We will do well this season, mate.

0

01 Aug 2026 19:00:30
What is this side lacking that the one that qualified for Europe had?

I think the squad is better now.

0

01 Aug 2026 19:02:59
I'm with Bowie on this.
Not keen on Glasner's formation with the current players.
No out-and-out wingers, and you're missing a lot of goals from the team.
Williams and Aina hardly prolific with their shooting, and inconsistent with their crosses.
Yes, we had Europe to contend with, but this same group of players struggled for consistency last season, and were near the bottom for the majority of the season.

In answer to Cyclist's question of who we are missing from the side that qualified for Europe, an on-fire Elanga and Anderson.

2

01 Aug 2026 19:20:40
We aren't playing low-block counter-attack, so Elanga is irrelevant now. Anderson will be missed. We do have some decent midfielders. One more, and I'm not so worried.

If Glasner is as good as people are saying, we'll do well this season.

The squad is not bad.

We are a wing-back and midfielder short, though, for sure. I wouldn't be surprised if we spend on an attacker, it will be someone who can play across the front line, unless a really good number 9 becomes available.

0

01 Aug 2026 19:31:01
First defeat in pre season and it's the end of the world for Nottingham Forest.

1

01 Aug 2026 19:33:33
Ismailer Sarr scored 21 goals for Palace last season, with 9 coming in the league.
A very similar player to Elanga, quick and direct.
They relied heavily on him in Glasner's system.

We definitely need another wing-back and midfielder, like you say.

1

01 Aug 2026 19:40:03
It's probably coming though, Fred?

0

01 Aug 2026 19:45:46
Hopefully, mate.
I've no doubt Glasner is a top manager, and delighted we've got him.
I'm just concerned about our players adapting to his system, when we've always played and been so dependant on wingers.

0

01 Aug 2026 19:46:55
All Glasner is doing is giving game time to every player to evaluate who he wants in his squad.
Results are irrelevant in preseason, and I have not seen a club play two in one day before.
Just saying.

Think the World Cup has got in the way of signings, Fred?
Other than Spurs, not a lot happening, but these are multi million deals and have to be right.
If I were a Newcastle supporter, I'd be seriously worried. Is all I can say.

World Cup definitely got in the way, even though players were in the shop window.
We've done ok in pre-season up until yesterday, but try telling the ones that were up in arms last season, when we barely scored a goal, that it doesn't matter. πŸ˜‚

Comrs to basics Fred, "Find me a natural goalscorer apart from Wood, who's actually applied for PIP?"

Yes Hudson, one trick pony, Aina, more sick notes than Peter Sutcliffe. Sangare lost the plot in the 2nd half. It was never about scoring, dtp. But survival. The defence did an amazing job. Simples, bud.

I'm not in the least bit worried about the season coming.

Please don't take this the wrong way but what have you actually seen to come to this conclusion?
I've seen nothing to be worried about
Newcastle have lost all their best players plus the coach reseigning, now that's when you start worrying
Other than spurs not many sides have added to their squads
Like iv'e said world cup got in the way of transfers

First proper team we play and we lose 4-1. Tells you a lot? Or just a friendly try-out?

Squad played two games same day.
So split squad, so very hard to take a view on the result.

Tells you nothing when they are almost ready to start the season, and we are in the intense double schedule every day, so wacked.
