The morning after the night before, and what a shame!
Thinking about it really, Villa and Dick Emery are running scares. They thought they could turn Forest over last Thursday, didn't work for them though!
Put a strong team out for Chelski, try to get a result. Then let fate sort out Thursday!

A point wouldn't be a bad result for us today. With our GD advantage, that would effectively put us 5 points over the Hammers, with 3 to play for them, including Arsenal and Newcastle, both of whom should put full-strength teams out for vastly different reasons.
Perhaps I'm being a bit naive, but I thought Dick Emery's team selection was going a bit early for the sprint to the tape? I thought he'd aim to secure 5th European champions spot by going for Spurs.

Now Bournemouth are only 6 points behind, with 9 to play for and similar GD.
All for the vagaries of a Cup Competition?

Without a doubt Aston Villa threw this. All reports are saying they played the worst match of their season. Yes, they might have been protecting players for Thursday's match, but it had a direct effect on our preparation by letting our relegation rivals win! They started with a mainly second-string side, and were two down by 25 mins at home.

It's crazy how condensed the league is this season, Chelsea are only 9 points better off that us and 4 wins could puts us 6th. Obviously the results would have to favour us and it won't happen but we could still reach mid table with a couple of wins and draws. ?

Hope you are right DTP. I also think we will stay up, as I've said before on here.
The key to Emery's selection was the replacement of his two trusted centre backs Konsa and Torres with Lindelof and Mings. He removed any bite in the midfield by resting McGinn too. Hence, defensively, they were all over the place.
I'm guessing he sacrificed this one because they play Burnley after us. But they've also got to play Liverpool and Man City.

They may have underestimated Bournemouth...
But, it is what it is. Emery has now subjected us to a spot of "scoreboard pressure", to use the cricketing term. Also to field our full strength team today (which I think we would have done anyway).
I'll leave it there, still puzzled. Again, to use a cricketing term, "just look in Wisden. The scores are there for all time".

Absolute nonsense to suggest we're safe at this stage! We need another 4 points at least. With Premier League refereeing as it is, we could easily get a red card in any of our remaining games which would make getting a result difficult or impossible. The team Villa have put out against Spurs looks rubbish. Added to all that, we have a striker who has only scored 3/4 league goal and we have to score to acquire more points.

Essential also that everyone keeps fit. Another superhuman performance required by Gibbs-White at Chelsea. Pleased with Hutchinson's performances and confidence at the moment, and hope he saves us and justifies his £37 million. He looks to be the best of the signings all things considered.
