Lots of great points on here re VAR and have to agree with most. Particularly wonkeye regarding that in the cup it should be applied in every tie. If not then it should be redundant across the board.

Regarding using VAR for offside is a complete joke. As they are working in fractions and do not have cameras directly in line how can anyone be sure. How can they ckearly define when the ball is kicked? Yiu can never be sure at what point the ball leaves the foot, such fine margins. So in the spirit of the law and that the naked eye cannot see fine margins like this it HAS to be left to the discretion of the officials at the match.

All this 3 minute scrutiny is shameful and goes out the window regarding the spirit in the laws of the game. It takes away the essence of going to a match, that of seeing a few goals. Goals for and goals against make football the game it is. This stopping and waiting everytime a goal is scored is pathetic and alienates further the paying punter. Its all for armchair fans and grey suits from afar.

Now the hard facts re var. It was the managers and tv punters who screamed for the use of technologies, saying, we need to get these decisions right. The game is no longer just a sport, there is so much money at stake we need to give the refs support. That in my opinion is what they asked for and I think what they have been given.

However if this trend continues it will be the single most reason why punters stop paying to attend football matches. They more than anything need to be engaged and given the right to see wrong decisions made by humans letting the game flow and something to banter about for better or for worse.

But like standing at matches was banned by the grey suits and no sign of a backdown, then var is going to be with us for infinitum and that is a dreadful thought!

Any off-side call that uses a bloody computer operative to zoom in and use additional technology to define whose foot is 50mm in front of someone else's is absolutely NOT required. If it's a close call it should go with the on-field decision.

Just like the cricket - "Umpires Call".

It's so embarrassing that both Rugby and Cricket can use technology to great affect, especially the Cricket where it has actually added something to the game. Yet the football industry, probably the most watched and funded sport in the entire World, gets this utter dross.

Unfortunately, football has always and will always be run by a mixture of untrustworthy businessmen and out-dated old dinosaurs who are no longer in touch with the game or it's fans.

Apparently it's only England where var is being taken to extremes, no suprise there.
Seems like some operating it don't even know the rule of offside as a hand arm or elbow can't be called offside, its not the technology that's wrong it's the pratts operating it.

Dead right wonkey.

Always said var will spoil the game and they proved it again yesterday any way shouldn't we be talking about more interesting things like where the bloody hell are our new signings or at least one I mean if it was going to be a great signing coming up it would of been done now they've had 4 months to do there homework looks like more freebies and loans on the way again.

Thats what i thought skegs. As soon as the window opened then at least 4 players would have been in place to walk through the door and us saying adios to the dross loanees!
Looks like another panic backend window.
