I think re-signing Matty Cash would be a great idea. What do you guys think?

We need a couple more home-grown players from our academy to have a full squad. We also need a full back. He has European experience and is a seasoned Premier League player.

Would they release him to a direct rival for Europe? They allowed Jacob Ramsey to go to Newcastle already.

I think Villa might be in a PSR hole and need to bring in another player or two. This would be pure opportunism.

Sign him now I’ll go and pick him up.

If he still has the pace he had with us I'd get him, but keep the contract fairly short, he's 27 and unlikely to be the same player in four years' time.

Yes please, great signing if we can get him back???.

BSE, there is another reason to give longer contracts, it isn't just to keep players until then. IT's to do with amortisation.

If we got Cash on a 2 year deal for, let's say, £16M, then we'd pay £8M for each year of his contract for the purposes of PSR. If we got him on a 4 year deal for £16M then he costs us ONLY £4M a year for PSR.

This is why most bigger deals are at least 4/ 5 year contracts. 5 years is the maximum period you can amortise a fee over.

Weren't Chelsea signing players like the Ukranian on 7 year contracts?

20 Aug 2025 19:04:24
Yes, Ginger, they changed the rules to maximum of five years because Spurs, Chelsea and City were taking the p1ss.

Ah, didn't realise they reduce it, 7 years was a piss take, it will come back to bite them as they have just been kicking the can down the road financially so to speak:)
