Just my usual pontifications now that the dust has settled.
Firstly, I can't fathom out whether the ref was bent or just incompetent ( I include his VAR team in this as well, because they could have given him the heads up, like they do in Rugby League and Union). On my numerous CID courses we were always talking about the Latin legal phrases "Mens Rea" and "Actus Rea" where the identical act can be done with a guilty mind or pure accident. So, a man fires a shotgun and kills somebody. Did he mean to kill him or was he out shooting rabbits and he sneezed and accidentally pull the trigger? Kierney either made a genuine error or he thought "I know, let's give Liverpool one more attack and see if they win it". If it's the former it's a human mistake made under stress ( compounded by his refusal to reconsider, stop play and bring it back for Forest possession). If it's the latter it's corrupt. Your guess is as good as mine but it seems unusual ignorance of the rules at this level.
Secondly, did anybody think the 2 bookings were for time wasting by MGW and Danillo? At the time I didn't see any particular delay and thought the bookings were for dissent. Anyway, it was obviously in the refs mind that he had time to make up. Of course, if we used a timekeeper and had time off and time back on like in Rugby Union and League it wouldn't arise.
Thirdly, it was so nearly a Nuno master class. Defensively solid, organized and compact with some good fast breakaway chances and shots. Also impressed by his refusal to discuss the ref. Silent contempt is more telling than having a rant.
Fourthly, I feel much more comfortable watching Sels in goal and he made a worldie of a save.
Fifthly, for all his critics Yates ( with Dominquez) looked superb and got through a mountain of destructive work against a top side. Fought like dogs and unlucky to be on the losing side at the end.
Nuno should use this debacle as a motivator like Fergie at Man U. Along the lines of "Look lads the whole world is against us. We're constantly under siege so let's show them"
Lastly, I am still cursing from us losing the ball at the end that led to the goal. But we have scored quite a few fast counter attacking goals from our own penalty area this season and Liverpool had committed everything forwards. It's what we are geared up to do and coached to that end. So whilst hindsight says "Row Z" it's to our credit that we tried to win it. Mind you, Tierney would probably have blown if we d got past the half way line! ?
On a lighter note, we've all heard of "Fergie time" so was the winner scored in "Kloppage time"? ??.
