Watched the Charlton game on the red button. Was so disappointed at how over run we were early doors. Our midfield was simply brushed aside and i was surprised how ineffective semedo was. Creepy has already summarised the game very well so won't labour this post.
Firstly i liked the fact that SL got a reaction from the group second half and certain things came to light. On a positive note Dawson and worrall were immense. Jenkinson looks a solid right back and made good moves going forward. Robinson does not look a natural full back, cash makes wrong decisions with final pass, though he still battles well. Bostock has good quick feet wnd plays with his head up, Mir did well when he came on and played in the hole behind Grabban and looked assured. And here is the crux. When you play away from home retaining posession high up the pitch is crucial for obvious reasons. Time and again you can see thst Grabban is not a lone striker. His touch is not great and he lacks the height and physicality to retain the ball and bring the midfield up alongside him. He will take 1 in 3 chances given him but in this league you might only get one. Even when we got to grips second half our play around their box was pretty tame and aimless. Lamouchi needs to find a formation away from home that gives us a real sustainable threat going forward or our defence might not hold out so well faced with the kind of onslaught hurled at us first half, we could and should have been out of the game after 20 mins, other teams might have put us to the sword with no way back.

Well put rutland one question do you think grabban is the anwser to our problems up front?

Aps1952. Grabban has a good pedigree, however with us he seems too casual infront of goal. Maybe that's his style but he certsinly needs chances to score. As much as i berate carvallho their is little doubt that carvallho reads Grabbans movements very well and Grabban does score more when Carvs is playing. Bostock is stronger than Carvalho, but Bostock seems to like playing deep. Personally speaking when we play a 3 5 2 we can dominate higher up the pitch. We have the personelle to play this system but we just need the perfect foil for Grabban. Lewis neither has the strength pace or height to play the lone striker, but give him a partner and good service higher up in and around the box then Grabban can do it. He thrives off scraps but when they are in the 6 yard box he is lethal. Off his arse or head he will find a way to get that ball over the line.

sums that is wooops.

I think the basic problem is the team still lacks pace to counter attack, if you are going to sit like we seem to be doing away from home, you need pace to get you forward.

Stevie agreed but its not so much the pace its speed of thought. We need to be more decisive in delivering the right ball at the right time. When we started to dominate against charlton we dithered around the box and then just ended up aimlessly crossing the ball to a totally marked Grabban who thrives on smart moves not high balls. Cash is too pedestrian of thought, silva needs to get right up amoung things, or he will make way for carvallaho. Mir could be just the man to bring the best out of Grabban. I would certsinly like to see more of him.
