Red Balloons ? you are a tease. A bit harsh at times, or is that a wind up?
When I was a young boy my Mum bought some balloons for my birthday party. I nicked a red balloon out of the packet and painted NFFC on it.
I tied some string to it and went out to play with the gang.
One lad Billy, a bit of a thug burst it with a cigarette.
"Billy Two Rivers" they called him. He said it was after the wrestler. The twins "Bill and Ben" said it was because he could pee two jets at once and they knew because he'd peed down both their legs at once in the toilets on our local park. Some said it was because he pissed himself in class at school and it ran down both his legs.
Anyway I got another red ballon and he burst that one as well.
So I got a third. I'm not proud of this. I filled it with Acetylene gas from Dad's welding kit in his outhouse workshop. I tied it tight and added the string. I wafted it near Billy and there was a massive bang . Once the sooty cloud had cleared there was Billy lying on his back with a black face and two white eyes, as his eyelid's shut instantly with the explosion.
" bloody hell Bill you look like a panda " I said and we all fell about laughing. Instead of beating the crap out of me he stormed off shouting " you're a f. g weirdo Wilf! "
The name Panda has stuck with him to this day, as has Weirdo Wilf. Deep down I think he liked it. It relieved him of the Two Rivers, which led me to believe it was because he had actually pissed himself at school after all .
I wasn't allowed balloons at my party again until I was 21 and I got married that day.
Sorry I know it's a football banter site but us oldies do like to remenisce.
