the way I see it! fawaz did the right thing pulling the plug on the transfer targets, how far would the selling clubs have gone if we had offered 4 mill for sako, would they have sold him or increased it to 4 n a half mill I seriously think the selling clubs thought fawaz was an easy touch so good on i'm for pulling the plug, and then having the good grace to tell us fans the reason why they hadn't signed anyone on Monday, plus when as any owner of our club and any club ever done that, in fawaz we have a very very rich forest fan that won't be taken for a mug and will spend is money wisely and every time we get a player in we will know that the player will bust a gut for the shirt and we won't have paid stupid money for and like ed said we won't be another Portsmouth. in fawaz and billy we trust
1.) I do agree with what your saying, but just to give the view from the other side! Fawaz has obviously given Billy the target of promotion for this year. If we don't go up, Billy can say that's because you didn't buy the players I wanted! Also with Sako, Wolves have said from day 1 the price was 4 million. We offered 3. 5, and I bet in reality if we'd gone to 3. 75m a deal would have been done. But as you say was the player worth it?
2.) Not sure where I really sit on the issue but let's look at the top four teams in the country;
Man utd - over paid for fellani
Arsenal - over paid for ozil
Chelsea - over paid for will-I-am
Man city - over paid for fernandinho
To name just a few and let's look at where these clubs are now!
I'm not saying what's the right and wrong course of action but without doubt being prepared to over pay for players clearly hasn't done them any harm at all.
Keeno
{Ed034's Note - are you trying to compare us to the biggest four clubs in the country and four of the biggest in the world?? Crazy
3.) These four teams you mention are the exception, the rest you have neglected to mention are languishing in the lower leagues or extinct due to reckless financial policies.
4.) Davies wants 2-3 new players. He has earmarked those he wants to get. Forest made umpteen bids but didn't get them. Do we make efforts get them on loan with a view to buying or risk waiting until January when it is as we know even more difficult to get teams to part with players?
5.) "Has'nt done them any harm"?
Not one of those players is 10 times better than the best prices paid in the Championship.
Most of the money for these transfers and wages is not earned by the clubs but gifted by the inequitable distribution of the Sky TV deal or petro dollar market both of which are organised to benefit an elitist few to the detriment of fair competition.
At least our club are trying to operate in a sustainable way and sign players who want to play for the shirt rather than the pay cheque!
6.) I'm not trying to compare us to anyone at all ed. i'm using some extreme examples, but what I'm saying is that over paying for players is not always the wrong thing as seems to be what the general consensus on here.
Over paying doesn't always have to be the same as irresponsible
Keeno
7.) I just like the fact he put Will-i-am
Haha
8.) Hi ed to your reply as these are the top teams in the country, a few seasons ago man city was in a lower league then us but with rich owners (like are so called rich owners) they were prepared to pay over the odds for players look where they are now!!
{Ed034's Note - a few years ago there were not restrictions on your spending. Nor we're there as many clubs in this division that had either rich owners or over the top parachute payments. If fawaz had the opportunity to spend big, without any restrictions, I'm certain he would.
9.) "Overpaying doesn't have to be the same as irresponsible"! heres hoping your never in control of my money.
10.) To suggest that every other club who has over spent are languishing broke in the lower leagues is absolute nonsense too. Whilst my examples were at the one end of the scale by making your argument based on the portsmouth's of the world u are doing exactly the same thing. Over spending has absolutely no issue as long as the owner continues to back the club.
I think it is abundantly clear that u do not become successful by having a good youth system and developing lower league players. You become successful by spending a lot of money. Yes the money has to be spent on the right players etc but the point is the same. Why are qpr going to win our league? Because they backed up and already strong summer of spending with 3 excellent signings on deadline day. Over paying on premier league wages to ensure they had the quality in their squad!
Im not saying I want us to waste millions on average players but my point is that there seems to be a bit of an idealistic view here around how football clubs should be run in and around transfers and in my opinion that will not necessarily bring success
Keeno
11.) "overspending is not an issue as long as the owners continue to back the club". What happens when the owners are tired of trying to compete with the elite teams? and when I say compete, I mean paying over inflated wages & transfer fees to players who simply are not worth the money they command.
12.) Nice to only look at the big clubs who have overspent as they are immune to the pitfalls Oh no who was that second big club from Scotland? Fawaz didn't get where he is by cutting corners and agreeing on bad deals because he can afford it, that would set a very bad president.
Cyprus Red
13.) Ok let's not sign anyone or pay over a certain amount of wages just in case the owners decide to pull out later on!
I can't buy that argument
Keeno
14.) What would have happened to Forest if Fawaz hadnt stepped in? Ultimately he is a shrewd business man, and as a rule, they don't overpay for anything. I suspect the Sako deal will set the precedent going forward, Fawaz will put his valuation on a player and won't exceed it. Billy & Fawaz have put together a really competitive squad to date, your obsession with overpaying for players suggest you are not happy with it. The alternative is to support a team who consistently live beyond their means risking self destruction.
15.) Read my posts properly mate. I am not suggesting that is how I want the club to run. I am putting forward an argument for overspending on a player if the benefit they bring is positive ie potential promotion and tens of millions.
Have u actually looked at Any football club finances recently. 95% of them are in debt and if the owners withdrew they would be in the proverbial! I'm afraid that is football nowadays. And primarily even without fawaz overspending on players we would still be in a mess if he withdrew. Take a look at our finances mate. He subsidises the club hugely without any player signings. We are not a self sufficient club just like many others. So even with the outlay on the players we have bought (who I'm assuming u think we have paid reasonable fees for) we would be in the cack if fawaz left.
However once again I am not saying that I won't the club to chuck money away left right and centre. What I am saying is that on numerous occasions overspending does work and clubs go forwards. I am afraid it is simply a realistic part of owning a football club and I'm sure something they are all shrewd enough to realise before
they invest their money, if the want the type of success that fawaz speaks of
Keeno
16.) Keeno I think you get the drift of my post yesterday. Its a double edged sword. There has to be a certain amount of over spending on the quality required if the prem is your ambition. Yes excersise caution but don't be two fools parted. Nothing in this life is guaranteed there comes a point where you have to have the courage for your convictions back the manager as far as you can and sweat a little in your investments, its never straight forward and can cause a lot of pain. Its comes with the territory of owning a football club.
Rutland Red
17.) I agree mate. Whilst I'm not talking about chucking money around willy nilly, if the manager identifies a couple of players that will make a difference an take u too the next level then I don't see the issue of over spending slightly if the outcome is going to potentially be greater than that little over expenditure. And there in lies the gamble you are talking about. But if you're not prepared to take that gamble, then that is absolutely fine, but then let's not spout lofty ambitions and maintain a reasonable, realistic level of expectation.
Keeno
18.) Billy & Fawaz have already put together a more than competitive squad, with the acquisition of a DM & striker in the loan market we can talk of promotion without being fleeced by Wolves. whilst I acknowledge some teams try & buy success, i'm backing Billys management & Fawaz business skills to do this the prudent way.
19.) Just be mindfull that wolves have notput sako up for sale or has he put in a trans request. It is us who have unsettled him. If you what to buy ready made it comes at a cost. Or you develop what you have. Rutland red

Any news from your source down the shrine ed
{Ed034's Note - nothing that we all don't already know.
1.) 02 Sep 2013 18:13:59
Beginning to flag, spirits not what they were, must stay positive, have to believe.
However, when you've had the likes of Djebbour, Mulenga, Austin, Vaz Te, Becchio, Guidetti, Maynard et al thrust at you for weeks, the thought of a deadline day acquisition of Matty Fryatt, well, you get my drift.
Lord Sigri
2.) Rather not sign anyone than an injury prone has been
25 Aug 2013 18:45:19
watched the game and thought with a bit more luck we could of had 5 we hit the post twice, had 2 one on ones and a cracking goal by reidy who was immense, and we limited them to one chance either half plus a brilliant freekick from lewis, soz make that 6 cus glory hunter miller should of passed to cohen, saying all that thought we were great today
23 Aug 2013 21:19:37
to the op who said sako was another lewis you are probably right he's not in this game much and when he was, he tried to beat to many players instead of looking up for a team mate, the one bloke who looks quality is kevin doyle, everything decent comes through him, bit disappointed with sako after all the hype expected a lot more, don't know if billy could get the best out of him, but defo not worth 3 mill as reported
1.) I've watched sako a few times and been impressed before 2nite. he just dint get involved enough which like you say reminds you of Lewis.
I were hoping we'd sign him but after that I'd not lose sleep if not! And agree on Doyle he looked a class above the only prob us he's another cox a good team player and provider but never going to be the selfish deadly finisher we so desire!
22 Aug 2013 20:13:52
with all tha sako rumours reaching fever pitch, we will be able to see Friday night, if sako's worth the money that's being quoted, cus wolves are on sky 1 at 1930, I for one will be watching, cus I don't know much about the guy and want to see if all the hype is worth it and whether he will improve our team
1.) He could be out player by then I know nothing just saying
2.) Is there any truth that we are actually in for sako?
{Ed034's Note - only the press, both local and national and the jim price comments
3.) Ill believe what jim price has to say for obvious reasons but the local press don't no anymore than what we do
Craig ng6
{Ed034's Note - local press tend to get a lot from national journos, who get things from agents
Is the silly bit of your note, ed, refering to the op lol
True forest fan; ed {Ed034's Note - :-D
U heard ed and is this bloke reliable {Ed034's Note - not heard anything mate, but I am very sunburnt and a little drunk, so haven't been able to look/speak to my usual sources
What no stoorey moore
No your just a doom and gloom merchant
Its not about the strikers its about providing a decent service for the strikers and we happen to have three great strikers in cox, mackie, and Henderson and if they are provided with the ammo they will score and we now have players to provide the ammo so get yourself down the shrine on sat and support the lads
The only person that needs to worry About. that is fawaz and by the look of it he ain't bothered so enjoy the new signings
How can we be dragging our heels bids have gone in surely were not going down the david pratt way of transfers, if its got boots pay millionsfor crap trust billy and fawaz
