I was one of the fans who really wanted stability to stick with a manager, give them plenty of time to get a decent backroom staff together and to try and implement a way of playing that can work through from the youngsters to the first team. I am however struggling to see enough positives from MW - the way he plays should be worked on through the academy and I'm sure we would see results in the coming years here comes the problem!

I cannot think of any manager who has ever been successful who hasn't played to his players or collective groups strengths, the level of success doesn't matter - it could be winning the champions league, a cup or winning a relegation battle. It looks to me that we are playing to our weaknesses in an attempt to play in a way that some of our players just cannot do.

We do have some good players and if they are encouraged to play to their strengths rather than their weaknesses we could easily have an extra 6-10 points this season. Come on breadman - play to our strengths and we will all support you, keep messing and it's a downwards spiral and more fans will get on your back.

But he’s not got a full squad capable of playing the football he wants. He’s not moaned about the squad that he has but it’s certainly obvious he feels he needs more of a certain type of player.

You’re right, we need stability but more importantly, and possibly above other things - we need patience and belief. No one is saying, “let’s see how this works over the next 5 years” - it’s a case of us understanding that right now, we are simply a mid table team trying to improve.

That improvement comes from a structure, a philosophy and a recruitment plan which are all on the same page.

Give this man another season and if it’s not working we look at our options. I’d also make a case for us being unable to attract top, top managers if we continue this revolving door policy.

2.) 29 Dec 2017 18:43:56
2 tone your bang on regarding players playing to strengths.Joe Worrall is a good example. When he keeps it simple he looks class but sometimes I feel he takes risks with the ball when it's just not necessary and seems out of character.I do have to give MW credit for giving some of these young men a chance.Past managers have been guilty of having a closed door policy on young players development.

3.) 29 Dec 2017 19:18:51
Ldn red - he’ll never have a full squad capable of playing the way he wants, that’s a completely different level to where we are and would cost millions!! If he isn’t careful he will ruin some of our ‘better’ players as they will forget what they are actually good at. I want to back him and give him a few years but I do want to see steady signs of improvement

4.) 29 Dec 2017 19:56:43
I’m not saying you’re wrong - but what I will point to is that in past/current seasons, teams which play a very similar style to us have competed at the top end or been promoted without spending millions.

Teams like: Sheffield United, Reading, Fulham, Bournemouth, Watford and Swansea.

MW won’t be looking to try and spend millions, he’ll be selecting players which fit his style.

5.) 29 Dec 2017 21:51:21
Bang on 2tone. Best post on here for ages

6.) 29 Dec 2017 21:53:35
Another season... You really think so?
Please lnd red enlighten us to why you think he should be given another season?
You state you want to sit down all of whom disagree with the way of the breadman... Again please enlighten us? Myself like many feel exactly like 2tone.

The inability to address many shortcomings is not how structure is built.
Structure comes from the chairman down to the staff who steward each week.
There seems to be a piece missing where Warburton is concerned his way of tactics, leaving players out in the cold and playing out position isn't a structured formula.
Yes structure takes time I agree but how much time is required.... 2,3,4 seasons?
So lnd red please with your infinite wisdom and inside knowledge tell us why Mr. Warburton is the messiah?

7.) 29 Dec 2017 23:11:04
I’m not one for enlightenment, I have an opinion, just like everyone here.

There’s certainly negatives with some of MW’s decisions, not all I’ve agreed with. But why kick us when we’re down though? Why get rid of the manager so quickly and start from scratch - AGAIN.

I feel it boils down to this. We have a young squad incapable of playing MW’s tactics on a regular basis and some fan favourites not getting as much game time as people would like. I’d be the first to say that we should’ve signed a CB and a GK in the summer, I’d like to think we tried (Hector & Federici) at least! The defence is certainly our weak point and it’s of course a shortcoming thay it wasn’t fixed back then.

The team he has now isn’t even his yet. There’s plenty of players in there which don’t suit the way Warburton wants to play which I think is largely why some players are being played out of position or not at all (Vellios). I personally feel we need to trust in a philosophy/manager and buy players which are suited to that style. It’s the only way we can make a real success of this - not by bringing in someone new and having them reshape the squad their way.

If we’ve learnt anything over the past few years, it’s that changing manager takes us at least 8months to reset. It’s been the thing which has largely held us back in recent years.

What we have now (I think), is a manager who wants to promote from within, has a clear idea of how he wants us to play and is willing to build a squad capable of doing that in his style. It doesn’t just happen in 1 window (incredibly rarely!).

Worth noting quickly - if we lose MW, we also lose our DoF, Frank McParland. Not something I’d want to do in a hurry.

Warburton aside for a minute - and remembering last season, where do people feel would be an acceptable place for us to finish based on our squad. Top half would be a lot of progress in my book.

If we can manage our expectations and take the lows with the highs, I think we’ll all be better for it.

8.) 30 Dec 2017 09:38:31
LDN Red

I agree with what you are trying to get across, but i feel 2 things are getting on most people's nerves are, we let the opposition score too easily, and there has been little sign of it being sorted, and inspite all of our possession, and odd patches of really good football the opposition mostly out play us.

It is a slow process, and we should try to be more positive, and hope for the best, but with each loss it gets harder.

9.) 30 Dec 2017 10:25:00
With you there 100%. Who here could say watching us lose is much fun?! I was at the Wednesday game and felt for much of the match we were actually miles better than them. 3 one on ones and a strong penalty shout - we were unfortunate not to go in 3-1 up at half time.

I digress.

The defence is a cause for concern and a large one at that. Most attacking possession based sides do leave themselves open at the back. We do need to be more solid but I’d wager that this is a personnel issue more than anything else.

Look at Huddersfield’s style of play (Champ and Prem), they look to out score you rather than play bland, slow football where you’d be lucky to see us score a goal. Progress is slow but my god, weren’t we a lot worse before?

The statement from the new owners and in particular the new chairman stated they wanted stability. This comes from trust and again, managing our own expectations.

25 million for a club like ours which is running at a loss, has no real assets and no structure still seems an awful lot of money. Fawaz thinks it's worth double that? Whose mad? Is it fawaz, is it the yanks for spending so much time and effort on a gamble that the selller might just crumble and give it away at the last minute or is it the fans who think the club is something that any sane businessman would buy at 50 mill? I'd suggest it's all three of the above?

2tone

1.) 14 Jan 2017 19:03:50
It's a gamble but run the club right and we could be worth a hell of a lot more. just think with fawaz gone we will have the 10k back that are staying away whilst he's in charge bringing more money in. get Nigel clough or rowatt in and we will never lose another game and be promoted first season which again brings even more money in! simple

2.) 14 Jan 2017 19:25:28
Lets take it on dragons den see if peter jones will invest

3.) 14 Jan 2017 19:41:00
Nffc is a brand, and as one of only 5 English clubs to be. European champions, then yes, worth 50 mill. Famous throughout the world, and that, you can't buy. Well you can, but you know what I mean!

4.) 14 Jan 2017 19:42:28
what crystal ball you been using?

5.) 14 Jan 2017 22:31:49
None of the championship clubs make money unless they have parachute payments. The difference is a prem team costs 150M and a champ team can get brought for sub 30M. Get it right. get paid.

Our attraction is we have history and fan base. but no ground. We are in this melee every year until we either go up or down. Same as 16 of the other teams. Championship teams lose money. They operate on negative equity. Like it or not Fawaz has helped us exist. JJM would have just been the next one to spin us for another 5 years.

ive been told Rhodes is going Wigan on the final day of the window? Info from a big scouse fan with good links around the nw

2tone

1.) No you just read the rumour yesterday. Wigan may however have the cash to buy him after the sale of young midfielder James McCarthy.

2.) Forest rumours

{Ed034's Note - this is a forest rumour as fans on here have been talking about him. If any fan doesn't like the rumour being posted, ignore it and move on to the next

3.) If i'd seen that rumour yesterday why would I just post it again? As I said in the op I was told this by a lpool fan who has good links around the north west.

4.) And its the same Liverpool fan who told me that I wouldn't be able to understand carragher on tv! So he us 100% correct with his info so far this season :-)

{Ed034's Note - he is awful

5.) Not according to Blackburn MD who says they will not sell to Wigan. Its going to be an interesting week to see who we get and who goes. If we could sell a few Rhodes could be affordable with the financial rules.

6.) He has a terrible tv voice which seems to get higher and higher the more animated he gets! Knows his stuff though and says it how it is

Keeno

7.) Wigan have signed Grant Holt - why would they need another?

So if Brennans sale wasn't included in this time period does that mean we've now got 45 million to play with in the next load of accounts? If we stay up we might be able to sign some new players ??‍♂️.

2tone

1.) 18 Mar 2024 20:44:38
God help us if we can - that’ll be Another 45 million. Wasted- please put us under a transfer embargo for a few seasons.

2.) 18 Mar 2024 20:45:48
It's impossible for a fan to understand the complexity of football finances mate
Should just say a club can't lose money?
Then football is no longer
It's pathetic and the rules are changing as they are out of date
TV tell us that when we went to Wembley it was a 200 million pound game for the winner?
They don't tell you are on your own with the other two promoted in a situation where you can't lose the same as the rest of the league.

3.) 18 Mar 2024 21:32:51
2tone don’t forget we got sangare at the same time as Brennan left,

4.) 18 Mar 2024 21:57:15
They are talking about changing the rules, so all bets are off.

The Johnson transfer money would have been included in accounting for the last season in the Championships and the two in the Prem. However, we spent a lot more in the last two than the penultimate season in the Championships but will have an extra year of the higher losses allowed. Confused? Exactly!

Meanwhile, Man City broke up to 100 rules years ago and 2 other teams are potentially going to be relegated for a relatively minor offence. Go figure.

5.) 18 Mar 2024 22:28:33
Cyclist yep and it’s apparently for our own good, so we remain’ sustainable ‘ then they make a decision that could cost us 100 million, laughable ??.

6.) 18 Mar 2024 22:29:13
The rules change after this season cyclist
Everton next up mate
The dippers need dealing with
They started all this but have never been punished, this time they have done it again and now the punishments are being handed out they can't go without their share.

7.) 18 Mar 2024 22:47:53
Does fairness have anything to do with it?

8.) 18 Mar 2024 22:50:25
Probably not cyclist.

And MGW was coopers choice and our biggest signing? I don’t really get what you’re saying? Just get these decent players, playing to the best of their ability and nobody would have an issue? I’m not one to get on coopers back but there’s something wrong.

I’m still not seeing enough though rogie, I think he’d be fantastic on strictly come dancing but I’m still not sure he cuts the mustard on the footie pitch. A few fancy flicks and plays seems to mask a lot, even the commentators on Saturday were saying that he is fantastic at corners and free kicks! Well I’ve watched most games this season (on tv) and it baffled me. Fans love him and I still back him but I’ll wait a bit longer before I think he’s a good player- being our best player doesn’t make him a good one.

I think Luton have been a great addition to the prem. committed to actually trying to win games rather than not to lose and they will be keeping a lot of the money in the bank to help fund their new stadium. They have given the fans something to cheer about and cry about all in the same 90 mins, I’d love them to stay up as well as us.

I’m sure I read somewhere that investment into the academy isn't included along with things such as women’s football? So you can throw money at women’s football but not men’s? Everyone including tv, media etc can lose money and try to create interest in the ladies game but you can’t do the same for the established game that can potentially make money? Profit and sustainability ??

2tone

{Ed001's Note - but there is more potential for growth in the women's game. By the way, until women's football was banned by the FA it had bigger crowds in England. That is why the FA banned it, because it was affecting crowds at the male football. The woman's game is growing at a huge rate, it makes far more sense to invest in that than the men's game, which has little return on the investment in terms of growth.}
