1951, the National Socialists (ie Nazi) party were ELECTED ( which is a scary thought in itself) with a majority of seats in July 1932. Second in number of seats was the Comnunist party.
However the German President Otto von Hinderburg, fearing anarchy and Civil war tried to broker a compromise agreement which failed and Hitler took power in January 1933. So I guess German government for all but 2 years of the 1930s was Nazi.
In a footnote, when Hitler began his round up of Jews, homosexuals, gypsies and dissidents he didn’t put them in 4 star hotels ………….
As for GLs right to free speech whilst working ( as a free lance) for the BBC would depend on the details of his contract. He could have possibly avoided trouble by prefacing his twitter remarks with the words “these are my private opinions and do not reflect the policy or views of the BBC” which is probably how matters will be resolved eventually.
