We are reputed to want Connor Wickham on loan from Crystal Palace, they are calling him a striker, but i thought he was more of a attacking midfielder. He would need four games at least due to his lack of game time to get up full fitness.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes and hope he doesn't get injured in between them 4 games been to injury prone thanks but no thanks let's move on to the next made up story from the papers 😁.

Connor Wickham, no thanks. Dwight Gale to Connor Wickham? Chalk and cheese.

Daz, i understand if you do not rate him, but the comparison to Gayle is not something i understand. They are two different types of player, Gayle is without a doubt a out and out goal scorer, Wickham is a defence splitter that chips in with some goals. Skegsjay does have a good point though that injury prone players should not be brought in to the club, and Skegsjay thinks he is injury prone, i assume he knows he has kept tabs on him to some extent to say that.

WTW I know they are two different types of player hence my comment chalk and cheese. Its goals we need not an injury prone player who will not get the goals required. Just think we could do better. Shane Long would be a player I would consider, needs to get his career back on track and he would get goals in the Championship and would probably be a cheaper option than DG?

I did not get your post as you meant it either Daz, by saying chalk and cheese it looked as if you were saying they are both strikers, Galleries who is quality, to Wickham who's poor. We do need a goal getter but we also need someone to challenge Lolley to create and score goals.

05 Dec 2019 20:36:49
Sorry guys I should have explained myself better. We need a striker who will get goals and DG would be exactly that. Wickham is not a striker who will get us the goals, even if he does chip in with the odd goal or assist I just think we could do better? probably the wrong choice of words in my first post.

Gayle and Wickham are both strikers. Wickham is a big strong No9 that's never quite kicked on. Watford in for him too apparently.

SSWE I always thought a striker was either the number 11 whose main job was to score as many goals as possible, or the number 10 in combination with the number 11 when two are played up front and the number 9 is a feeder that chips in with a few goals.

I supposed it's subjective but Wickham is a 6ft+ centre-forward. When he broke through, he made waves in the England youth set up and was supposed to be the next Alan Shearer. Obviously it didn't work out that way for him.

For me, a No9 is the man that plays centrally and leads the line and is often a target man. A No10 is traditionally more creative and floats around the No9, often dropping a bit deeper to get the ball to feet.

That's only a personal opinion though. I know different shirt numbers mean different things to different people, especially in different countries. For e. g. A No3 over here is a left-back but in Holland, traditionally, the No5 is the left back. Or a No5 in Argentina is often a deep-lying midfielder.

Imo no thanks to Conor, hardly been ripping up trees and not worked out at Palace for him. Gayle (cheating aside), is proven at this level but unless it's a loan deal he's not worth 15 mil at 30.

I wonder if they are still keeping tabs on Shankland at Dundee.

42 someone suggested Shane Long, what are your thoughts on him joining us.

06 Dec 2019 15:59:19
And again as I've said before will we get a big named striker that is going to sit on the bench and wait for grabbon to get injured were not going to change the system it works and we're not going to pay 10 to 15 million pound on a striker to sit on the bench we already have a number 10 that's cost us 13 million sitting on the bench it will be a up and coming foreign lad that we probably haven't heard off that will learn off grabbon we will probably invest more in a attacking midfielder or a attacking winger any way its good watching you come up with all these top strikers it's like reading the papers every morning lol 4 nil tonight uredddsss.

WTW, Long always gives 100% and is full of running, really liked by the fans. Doesn't score that many for the Saints and usually used as a super sub for them, one of my mates is a Saints fan so watch them when on the box.

Would be decent in the Championship if he dropped down but 32 now so past his best I would think.

We need to cut that one "short
"and don't even think about it.
Irish strikers in the twighlight of their career aren't the answer.
