So, let me get this right……
At the Charity Shield game, Liverpool fans boo the National Anthem and then get upset when Palace fans boo the tribute to Diogo Jota in retaliation perhaps?
Then tonight Cherries fans, on a hiding to nothing and massive underdogs, travel all the way from the south coast to Liverpool where they impeccably observe and support the Jota tribute. In return, the game is stopped on the half hour mark for racist abuse by at least one Liverpool fan on a Bournemouth player.
What’s your take on this Ed 1?
I have 2 comments…. firstly, the Liverpool fans don’t do themselves any favours do they?
Secondly, let’s hope the rest of the clubs playing this weekend don’t decide to ignore the Premier Leagues directions and mar the Jota tribute.

A football match should never be stopped because of abuse from the crowd. Footballers and people in general have become too sensitive. Crowd abuse has been happening for decades. Get over it.

The match last night, all the off field stuff aside - did VAR fall asleep? A deliberate hand ball on the half way line, to stop the forward having a run on goal! I thought we were promised better decision making!

Have to be honest stokey there seems an aspect of type casting Liverpool fans because of one idiot. Some things that I hear at the city ground are disgraceful, there are idiots everywhere. Liverpool is a great city full of fabulous people (I have many Liverpool fans as friends and colleagues) any suggestion that a single football fan represents the view of entire fan base is a bit off and a thought well beneath a man of your intelligence - your much better than that mate.

I agree about the city and the football club Gold Star. I read ( and heard a commentator ) mention “ a section of the crowd “ dishing out the rascist abuse. If it’s a random nutter in a wheelchair then I withdraw that part of my remarks.
To be honest, in all the years of going to the City Ground, since I was 9 years old, whilst I've heard abuse of refs and the “normal” abuse of opposing teams etc that comes when fans lose it in the heat of the moment, I’ve never heard racist abuse. On duty or off.
In recent years, say the last 15 or 20, with CCTV and the club knowing exactly who is sitting in which seats, plus the threat of racially aggravated sentences at Court etc it’s become a thing of the past ( I hope).
{Ed001's Note - it is not just that you were wrong about mate. Palace fans did not boo Liverpool fans for booing the national anthem and deliberately ruin the minute's silence doing so. In fact they were booing a section of their own fans who had been so busy singing and chanting that they didn't notice the start of the minute's silence. When fans around them shushed them, they started an argument, as they clearly thought it was prawn sandwich brigade fans trying to stop them making noise and that was what Palace fans booed. Nothing to do with the national anthem or Liverpool fans. It is a slur on Palace fans to suggest they deliberately ruined the silence. I get pig sick of reading the nonsense about the anthem, which is just a Richard Keys invented issue to try and stir crap up.
Yesterday it was one dickhead in a wheelchair, who wheeled himself forwards and started having a go at Semenyo as he was about to take a throw in. He was kicked out pretty sharpish and will be banned for life. Semenyo has even posted on his social media about how grateful he was for the support he received from all quarters, which made him realise he was not standing alone on this issue.}

Hi Ed 1just to introduce a bit of humour and light heartedness into this thread…. I’ve been googling the You gov approval ratings for various national institutions mate. Did you know that, of the Royal Family, William and Kate score 74%, Princess Anne 70%, the King just under 60%.
Liverpool FC score 46% ( the same as UK politicians ).
So, I can only conclude that at future events, the Royal Family should roundly boo the entrance into the pitch of the Liverpool team……. ????
By way of consolation Celtic Fc, the other Anthem boo ers score only 29%.
The Police score between 60% to 68% actually down from 74% the year before and 81% the year before that.
Perhaps as common ground we should agree that there is no such thing as a typical copper, just as there is no such thing as a typical Scouser. The vast bulk of the 4000 Merseyside Force are both …….

I hope this is posted under the banner of 'free speech' which, surely, should be the essence of this site. Stokey - it is the measure of you as a good man that you feel the need to 'diffuse' the situation between yourself and Ed001. IMO you don't need to at all mate. You asked open questions to provoke thought and debate - I think Ed001 reacted in an over-the-top way which, frankly, amazed me as the chief editor on this site. I don't know if you were having a bad day yesterday Ed001 - but your comments seemed totally out of character for you. You accuse Stokey of casting aspersions - but just consider this for a moment. You stated that the dickhead shouting racist abuse was in a wheelchair. Why? You could say that he had a big nose, was wearing a wig or had no fashion-sense. But, instead you focus on the fact the obvious prick was sat in a wheelchair. Why even mention that? Is that a factor in the guy being a prick? Is that not an obvious aspersion about disabled people? As you know, I have a sense of humour about my disability. However, when mealy-mouthed hypocrisy appears it does get my back up.

Loads of people support the Royal Family. The majority of them in the UK are old, mostly retired and won't be here in 30 years. They're the ones who stole the future of the next two generations. Good pensions, cheap houses, loads of them and their incomes guaranteed to increase every year at our expense. Everyone else can wait until they're about 70 odd to retire and still get nothing in comparison. It's obvious why people in that position don't mind a bunch of parasites freeloading on the general population by accident of birth.
And I'd definitely think twice about saying anything about Liverpool fans if I was either a copper or a journalist for obvious reason, but that's just me.

Ed, I wasn’t at Hillsborough and had nothing to do with it or its aftermath. Like I say, you can’t smear every cop in the land for Hillsborough just I can’t and won’t smear every Scouser with a blanket contempt or perception.
By the way, did you get my question about whether you were at the Charity Shield game or at Anfield v Bournemouth? It would help clarify how events unfolded. You can’t beat an on the spot reporter.

But the players, particularly van Dijk when interviewed after the game, have said that is what happened, is that a good enough on the spot reporter? Someone actually in a position to hear what happened as it happened. Also he could have quite easily, as the interviewer was clearly hoping for, used the opportunity to have a dig at Palace fans and even used it as an excuse for his terrible performance. Instead he was quite clear that it was just one of those things and Palace fans were trying to shut up the chanting and singing.}

I say again - why do you feel the need to mention the fact that the knob was in a wheelchair? It may be a fact - but if an able-bodied person screamed the same rubbish would you mention that he was stood on two legs?
Stokey was simply promoting a healthy debate which you turned upon in a rather nasty way. You surprised and disappointed me Ed001. Passion for a club is one thing - obvious bitterness to others promoting debate about your club is another.

Of course all coppers aren't the same Lego/ DTP. And I'm glad we have them.
But I wasn't taking the P out of Stokey, that was a serious point. The reason it is so sensitive when a copper insinuates that "Liverpool fans do themselves no favours" or similar, is what happened at Hillsborough was partly caused by that attitude and was covered up - for YEARS!
As for the idea I have a chip on my shoulder, well there is one thing that never sits easy with me and never will. The people who benefitted for m council house building (and got to buy most of the houses cheap which now pay extortionate rent for), a great NHS, free dental care, free eye care, good pensions, decent public services etc. are the very same people who voted for the opposite (no new council houses, cuts, massive pension increases for them) for my generation.
My Grandparents fought a war for us to have what you had and you guys (you know who you are) voted for it to be taken away from us. I'll always be angry and also sad about that.
It's also a bit rich (DTP) to accuse people of not being patriotic then saying don't discuss politics. Patriotism is not just flag-s4agging or fawning to the unelected monarch - it is loving the people who are the future of your country. It cartainly isn't patriotic to dismiss the passion of others about the future generations of what used to be our great country.
Oh, and Ed001 is not out of order here.
