You know when talk about are we ready for the champions league?
Well to me its great to see three clubs, ie Newcastle and villa initially get into the champions league from the championship and now we are also competing to get there, just gives hope that you don't necessarily go straight down and it's a wake up call to the elite.
06 May 2025 21:59:51
To right, all that extra investment.
Talking of C. L. Anyone watching inter vs barca? What a game. Again.
06 May 2025 22:04:02
No in hot tub having a chill.
06 May 2025 22:10:12
But you're not answering the first line of your own post DTP - are we ready for the CL? Any sane and rational Forest supporter would say no.
We all agree that Forest have done brilliantly this season and 'boxed above our weight' whilst unsettling the 'elite'. However, I now think our situation has become vanity vs sanity. That is, the vanity of European football against the sanity that we need to retain our status as a top half club in the PL.
Personally, I've come to the conclusion that we're a season too early for European football.
06 May 2025 22:27:30
Yes it’s a great game Barcelona can’t defend to save their lives but a great watch.
06 May 2025 22:46:12
Spot on Legolas.
06 May 2025 22:48:29
Legolas but the same argument was put forward when we got promoted, saying we’re not good enough, but that’s the challenge, you upgrade just like we have in the prem, they’d be plenty of teams out of their depth in the cl that qualify every year, Celtic to name one,
06 May 2025 22:49:45
Lego we aren't ready but you have to take it
We weren't ready to win the league and then the European Cup after promotion back in the day either
But guess what? We did it.
06 May 2025 22:59:38
Seven goals from an Italian side overtwo legs?
Unheard of.
07 May 2025 00:48:16
Posted about three weeks ago that getting in one of the lesser European cups may well cost us our Premier league position. As for Villa and Newcastle they have between 10 to 20 thousand extra supporters every home game, and I think the Premier will be a lot more competitive than this season?.
07 May 2025 11:04:14
Adding to some of the above, Newcastle and Villa were still getting parachute payments unlike us.
07 May 2025 13:15:14
Hey DTP mate, if you are having a chill in the hot tub mate I suggest you turn the temperature up a bit! ????.
07 May 2025 15:57:32
I'd prefer a season playing a good number of champ's league matches even with limited success to not having one. It gives some of the players and boss experience at that level ready for the future and brings £££s to the club.
A free hit with low expectations sounds great to me. Look what happened when Super Cooper took over the club at the bottom of the championship with little hope for that season.
Always aim high.
07 May 2025 17:17:23
I really do hear and respect what you're saying Stevie, DTP and Cyclist. Don't get me wrong - of course I'd love to see our great club fighting it out with big boys of European football again. However, to use the title of one of my favourite films, I'm just concerned that European Football could be 'a bridge too far' for us atm.
I may be overthinking it and perhaps we should just go for it. However, we'd all be gutted if this time next year we were talking about Forest being the whipping-boys of European football and fighting relegation from the PL again after stretching ourselves too thinly.
I can see both arguments, but personally I'm in favour of consolidation for next season and then go for it.
PS. DTP - please don't mention anything over two legs again mate (! ).
07 May 2025 18:35:52
Legolas nobody is talking about winning the thing, but we’ll be a lot better than the likes of club Brugge ferencvaros, slavia Prague etc, we could be competitive, if we can play Liverpool twice and not get beat that’s more than most in Europe generally do, even psg couldn’t do that, and we’d upgrade, it would be fantastic for the club.
07 May 2025 19:43:00
Mmm, you could be right Stevie. However, I can't help but think that doing European football next season would lead to us being victims of our own success from this season.
07 May 2025 20:35:12
If your good enough to qualify, you are good enough to play in it.
07 May 2025 21:08:31
Your on your own as a forest fan with that view lego, don't know a single fan that doesn't want champions league and regardless we will be in Europe anyway.
07 May 2025 21:57:37
DTP - I've never minded being on my own in my opinions. I will never wilt to overriding opinions of others if I think that I'm in the right. I guess it's a Scorpio thing.
If you have read my previous posts - of course I want us to be competing in European football. Only when we are ready for it though.
07 May 2025 22:14:10
Well we are in Europe like it or not and I'm going to enjoy it
How can you pre judge how we will do in the champions league if we get in it?
For starters there will be some quality players arriving if we are in it, so it's impossible to say we will be the whipping boys
Really don't understand your view tbh.
07 May 2025 22:17:59
I've been a massive fan of boxing throughout my life DTP. To use an analogy, I think if Forest do make it through to the CL we would be like an untrained, unfit and overweight boxer in the ring against a seasoned and fit pro. OK, Ruiz got away with it against Joshua - but hundreds don't make it in those circumstances and their careers fall by the wayside.
I would hate for our great club to falter in the same way.
07 May 2025 23:33:07
We've faltered for 30 years kego mainly in the championship with a few in league one
So why worry?
Never been in a better place.
07 May 2025 23:35:07
Abd gingerkid yes that's the most simplistic way of putting it
Nice to see you back by the way.
07 May 2025 23:40:05
Stokey it's always on max 40 degrees
Best time to go in it is when it's cold outside
Great when it's minus in winter.
07 May 2025 23:42:12
By the the way lego joshua the biggest con artist that heavyweight boxing has ever seen.
07 May 2025 23:43:04
Lego I’m a big boxing fan too, try these examples mate, should clay have been in the ring with Liston? Should buster douglas have been in with Tyson, ? should John h Stracey have been in. The ring with Jose Napoles ? Lloyd honeyghan with don curry, ? Randolph Turpin? with sugar Ray Robinson? On all known form no, but they took their chance and all won, being an underdog doesn’t always equal defeat, sometimes you just got to take the chance you earn,
08 May 2025 08:20:00
I know DTP, my wife and I rent a place in deepest Wales for our December birthdays with a massive hot tub. There’s something about it being minus with a glass of cold champagne yet being as warm as toast……????.
