Here's a brief football quiz after Redsocks earlier brilliant effort ( and to take our minds away from yesterday's frustration)
Which 2 English teams in top 4 divisions aren't named after any geographical area? ?.
29 Sep 2024 18:22:01
Sunderland because there f kn aliens derby because there sheep.
29 Sep 2024 18:26:40

Again on taking the frustration away from yesterday stokey mate. Sent to a lot of my good friends on here, yesterday after the game. An amazing little series on prime (if any of you have it) now i know a lot of ya not really into boxing, but ( four kings) highlights chris eubank, nigel benn, lennox lewis, and frank bruno. Tell ya almost brought a tear. if i wasn't so tight of the memories of the great era we just about ruled all. It's everything from bruno (could easily have finished tyson) to minter btw. Total disgrace of this country after hagler beat him. Cockney boys as per. I know weren't mentioned but reds it's those times we all remember each fight etc. Absolutely brilliant. Btw i know your all going to say lennox. But for me eubank best ever boxer we've had. If (not even going to say his name) heavyweight had eubanks jaw. He'd be actually half decent. His defence pathetic etc.

Arsenal def and maybe MK Dons?
29 Sep 2024 19:13:50
I thought I was intelligent enough to answer this without googling it. Nope! After searching Port Vale, Bowie has nailed it. Smug bugger.

Been out all day Stokey, and missed your quiz. Port Vale - got that, but struggling with the other.
With your nettles in the farmyard, our dog is allergic to nettle pollen and at the moment its count is high. Poor dog's eyes are red raw.

Both Mrs Legless and I love our boxing, Bowie. Her particularly - I remember Mrs L shouting 'C'mon Frank' at the screen when Bruno made his 'little comeback' against Tyson all those years ago.
Agree with you about Eubank as being the best this country has ever produced. Cooper's left hook was something else though!
However, the best fight I have ever seen was Nigel Benn vs Gerald McClennan. The 'G Man' was sent to this country to kick Nigel's backside - a great fight, but so sad about the effects of the fight afterwards.
29 Sep 2024 21:26:17
Legless, Lennox Lewis is the best boxer to come out of this country by a mile. I’d have him in the top 8 heavyweights of all time.
29 Sep 2024 21:53:35
Born in this country, Stevie - but spent much of his upbringing in Canada, including representing Canada in the Olympics. Some would say that he only came back to the UK as he knew he couldn't have a worthwhile professional career as a boxer in Canada.
Lewis was indeed a great fighter. However, I rank Eubank as the best given the fierce competition in the middleweight division he faced at the time and beat.

I've just re-read your post, Bowie. Unfortunately, Minter was at best average. A big lad, but up against Hagler - he didn't have a chance. Hagler along with Sugar Ray Leonard are IMO the best middleweight boxers the world has ever seen. Even Duran pales into insignificance compared to them.
29 Sep 2024 22:43:12
If you look up in discussion history legless mate. You will see i had that era and middle weights as best ever. Sugar ray, hagler, hearns, duran. Stevie f. Just because your a heavyweight doesn't make your boxing better. Although clough bless him would agree and did that ali was probably the best sportsman of all time. ? in fact i think this country voted him that.
29 Sep 2024 22:44:05
Born in London good enough for me Ray Robinson best middleweight ever, Leonard even nicked his name, Robinson widely regarded as best pound for pound ever, Duran was remarkable, lightweight was his best weight, but stepped up to middleweight to fight much naturally bigger men, and was still brilliant, my favourite fighter, a real warrior, ducked nobody.
29 Sep 2024 22:46:51
Legless Duran did beat Leonard, 1st fight, hardly pales into insignificance.
30 Sep 2024 03:22:20
Mcguigan fights back in the day loved them. Best fighter, pound for pound? Floyd Mayweather for me.
30 Sep 2024 07:29:18
Mayweather dodged and cherry picked opponents, sugar Ray Robinson won his first 126 fifghts as an amateur and pro, lost to jake la motta “, The raging bull, “ and then won his next 88 pro fights, not sure exactly but I think he avenged that defeat 4 times, he fought at welterweight, but finished up fighting for the light heavyweight title, where he was clearly wining on points but collapsed from heatstroke, but he was almost unbeatable for a period at middleweight, even the great sugar Ray Leonard laughed when a reporter compared the 2, Robinson fought at a time when top fighters actually fought each other and regularly,

Bowie mate, you win the cigar. Arsenal had various names after a group of munitions workers at Woolwich Arsenal in North London formed a club but eventually dropped the Woolwich bit (and other variations) around the time of WW1.
Port Vale is the nickname the pottery workers and locals of Burslem had for a stretch of the Trent Mersey canal where the barges had a string of small jetties where they unloaded and loaded clay, coal, etc. at the various kilns. The joke was that the jetties (like bus stops really) were ports. They are not on any maps.
30 Sep 2024 08:56:27
Audley Harrison for me. He won me a lot of money as he kept losing against anyone half decent. Mayweather was a very good boxer but, like Stevie stated, he cherry picked opponents.
Dodged Del la hoya and Pacquiao until he knew he would beat them. He fought all of them too late in their career as he wasn't sure he would beat them in their prime. He mastered the art of not getting hit, though.
30 Sep 2024 09:20:57
Bowie, that’s why i said sugar ray Robinson pound for pound best ever, lost once in 10 years at middleweight, when people actually fought all comers and didn’t dodge dangerous fighters.
30 Sep 2024 10:33:35
Amazing fighter steve. True pro mate ?.
30 Sep 2024 13:08:36
Polly he, didn’t fight Shane Mosley til he was way passed his best either,
30 Sep 2024 15:41:50
Yeah I forgot about Mosley. Probably one or two others as well.
30 Sep 2024 16:26:53
Stevie f, it's strange how ya post of duran. He really was like raging bull la motta. Loved him. Hitman hearns could also move to any weight. Hagler was just brutul. Sugar ray the thinker. The reason i picked ali, is he just had everything. Light on his feet. Could box with such speed. But most of all. Fought and beat the best heavyweights of all time at there prime. And had a bigger head than clough.
30 Sep 2024 16:27:52
Can’t allow MK Dons Legless mate as there full title is Milton Keynes Dons… I even checked the relative newcomers like Forest Green Rovers but Forest Green is a district of Nailsworth in Gloucestershire….
30 Sep 2024 20:56:27
Bowie, Ali was a genuine one off, who transcended sport, a genius of a boxer, his speed for a heavyweight unbelievable, fast hands, probably the best heavyweight of all time, and almost certainly the most
Charismatic sportsman of the 20th century,
30 Sep 2024 21:44:36
Definitely clubber lang for me. im going to bust you up ?.
01 Oct 2024 11:06:04
Sugar Ray Leonhard was the best pure boxer I've ever seen.
