Reading below that Viv Anderson is selling his 'stuff' made me think of our best ever back four.
Difficult because my first live game was in 1968.
I'll go for Anderson, Pearce, Burns and Walker.
A few others narrowly miss out. Hennessey, Mckinlay, Metgod, Lloyd.
We've had some brilliant defenders over the years.

I always liked Psycho when I was a kid. He was my favourite player by far. Des was a close second.

Viv Anderson isn't on his uppers, just needs money for his kids wedding and house deposit, it said in the article. Got me thinking of testimonials for players, one of the best was for Stuart Pearce. Kick off delay to get in all the support including 4000 Newcastle fans, Keegan and McDermott coming on second half, a goal scored by Crossley playing up top second half, a lot of entertainment that night the score 6-5. It also led to one of football's best quotes. The "I'd love it", said by Keegan after Ferguson implied Forest would take it easy on Newcastle in a league game for playing in the testimonial for Pearce!. Pearce made about 200, 000 for the testimonial game, not even one weeks pay for say, Raheem Sterling ?.

My daughters wedding next year. Sold my memorabilia on ebay. Cricket trophies, football, so far. 38 nectar points and 6 x green shield stamps, should pay for the honeymoon surely ?.

Had this conversation only the other night (post 1977 only, I'm not that old). We went for that back four too.
Shilton.
Anderson, Walker, Burns, Pearce.
Roy, Keane, McGovern, Robertson,
Collymore, Clough.
Subs: Sutton, Lloyd, Clark, Bowyer, Webb, Hodge, O'Neill.
Always thought HVB was better than Shilts but he was only here for 2 seasons.

Francis, Woodcock and Gemmill not even making the bench?.
20 Sep 2024 20:33:25
Mv francis was a different class striker to collymore, his goals almost all at top level, just compare the 2 careers, and he won us a European cup with one, he’d be one of the 1st names on my team sheet, and woodcock was a fantastic player,
20 Sep 2024 20:37:13
Only ten players there sutty
Mcgovern wouldn't be anywhere near my eleven, clough captain but not a very good footballer
Always remember after we thrashed Ipswich in the charity shield talking to their fans outside and they said thank god you only play with ten men, if you replace Mcgovern with a quality player it would have been a cricket score.
20 Sep 2024 21:30:05
Stevie f how can you actually compare francis to collymore mate? Have you forgot collymore just made something outta nothing? Francis had distribution on a plate sir?
20 Sep 2024 21:33:07
Sorry sutty you put Bryan Roy I'm I guess?
Why? He wasn't as good as birtles Francis, woodcock, van hoojdonk, Joe Baker, Teddy Sherrington Peter withe for starters.
20 Sep 2024 21:36:26
I actually agree with you Stevie for a change ? shilton my best ever player for forest but that's just me and my opinion.
20 Sep 2024 22:23:26
Agree Stevie f, Woodcock and Francis have to be included. Possibly Antonio also at his peak?
20 Sep 2024 22:59:33
Antonio? ??
Not in the sane league.
20 Sep 2024 23:20:33
Bowie I can compare them easily, Francis had an elite career at the top level, he was a superior striker, with a much better attitude than Stan, won multiple caps for his country, play abroad and was successful, perhaps someone can compare stans career and see where it’s better, but no one will convince me he was, he had about 3 good seasons, if that, a waste of a talent? Maybe, but the games full of those, all long forgotten,

Lot of aggression stevie young man. Now i don't pay you to take throw backs. Nah seriously collymore/ roy were unreal. Thank clark another lad given a hard time. Hey Steve, I'm not taken anything from francis my friend. I'm just saying collymore wanted it more, had more physical presence, and didn't have probably best league team in the world feeding him is all.
21 Sep 2024 07:05:41
Bowie aggression? ?me? ? no mate, Stan could look unplayable on his day, but most of his best days came in the championship, Francis was a top class striker, at the highest level, and did score goals in a bad Birmingham team as a 16 year old and onwards, he didn’t always play in a top team ‘ spoon fed ‘ as you put it, the 2 careers are not even comparable, plenty would have missed that header that won the European cup,
21 Sep 2024 09:57:54
Stan scored more times in Colwick Woods???⬛.
21 Sep 2024 15:06:26
Again only jesting stevie bud ?.
21 Sep 2024 19:33:20
Bowie, I know mate, ?.
