I remembered my grandads passing away yesterday. During the War he was responsible for single handedly downing 30 German planes. The Luftwaffe later said he was the worst mechanic they'd ever had.
In other , the lady who fainted whilst on the London Eye has come round again! ?.

Billy Connolly said that the Clyde shipyards helped out with the WW2 war effort by making bomber aircraft.
1st mission over Germany the pilot opened the bomb doors and the night shift fell out!

Stokey on about the luftwaffe, i'm sitting watching reach for the sky. The amazing story of Douglas bader. Still love the old films on a Sunday afternoon mate. Anyway done my walk today, nearly passed out ??? just no air. And i'm right on the north east coast. Feel for you lot inland. Weather is just unreal.

Sorry Bowie, misplaced and out of sync as usual mate. I love those old black and white war films. My favourite is “ In Which We Serve” Co directed and starring Noel Coward, plus John Mills, Richard Attenborough and Celia Johnson. There’s 2 lovely stories that Mills recounts about the filming ( in 1942). Firstly when HMS Torrance (based on HMS Kellly, Lord Louis Mountbatten s ship) is sunk everyone’s in a huge tank full of dirty cold water in the studio. Everyone except Coward who turns up in a gold bathing gown which he casts off dramatically to reveal a perfectly tailored swimsuit. He does a perfect dive into the water and surfaces next to Sir John and says “ Right chaps let’s get this scene shot as the water is brimful of cholera and sewage “!
As a result of this and other films Coward and the rest of the cast were placed on the Nazi death list should they occupy Great Britain. After the war the list was shown to Coward who coolly remarked “ My goodness, dear boy, the people we would, perforce, have been seen dead with”!

My favourite black and white films of all time are “Brief Encounter “ and “Casablanca”. Humphrey Bogart as the laconic, world weary Rick Blaine has the best lines in cinema history. When the love of his life ( Ingrid Bergman as Ilsa Lund, never more beautiful and appealing) walks into his bar he remembers the last time they parted.
“ I remember every detail. It was the day the Germans marched into Paris. You wore blue, the Germans wore grey “. Every line a zinger!

You really are unreal stokey i swear. Total man of the world. Your knowledge is just beyond belief sir. You should be very proud of yourself.im still struggling on ladybird books. Well not really. But my ignorance towards reading is beyond belief. My daughter buys me bowie books none stop even though me and the wife tell her i never read . Rogie the diamond I've never heard of that one mate. Sorry.One of my all time oldies favourites is Angels with dirty faces. And actually a better one. Twelve angry men.
