Reading the posts on here from the respected 2star, balloons and skegs, stokey and jolly and of course the momentous Bowie, it seems a very mixed perspective so far in pre season.
The purchases seem very astute and the outlook painted positively. What I find concerning is the lack of scoring opportunities even against the lower div teams. Sc seems to have faith in the likes of mighten and Cafu Taylor too. You might have thought we would have turned a few teams over by now. It sounds like a pretty turgid affair yesterday and based on that we must be fearful of getting turned over ourselves as we seem to relish playing it out from the back particularly in central positions. If you haven't got players comfortable on the ball you are going to struggle in the prem playing it out thus. We struggled big style trying it last year and only prospered when samba released it quickly to a deeper position with an astute throw or kick. Not bothered that we aren't banging them in but we should be creating and looking inventive at least. Cooper had the balls, some might say audacity, to dump lolley, let's hope he sees the sense in players still in the squad couldn't make it a championship level so ain't going to step up. Some good players, on paper, on the radar, so let's hope that the likes of garner are not suddenly drafted in though a fit Davis would make sense but I doubt he is a naturally fit lad and I believe he played with injuries through his tenure with us as he only ever made it to the 60 minute mark and never really had the pace to shake off his markers. His touch and strength are sublime but there is a reason why he he has never established himself at a club.

It was shocking yesterday Rutters.
Not one shot on target and created nothing. It was hard to watch and stay awake. ?.

We need to sign Dennis think he will score plenty with service from Johnson and Linguard
Garner needs to be signed to pull strings in midfield. He’s wasting his time at Man U.

Doesn't take long after winning promotion for the usual doomers to start up again.

They're called pre-season friendlies for a reason, he's been changing players in and out as new ones come in. Really can't see anything to be getting your nickers in a twist about.

As for Davis, his game has never been about pace, it's all about strength and hold up play and bringing others in, he was awesome at it.

Garner had a cracking season last year and don't get your continual put downs of the lad.

Maybe we should actually wait for the season start and see a few games before getting too negative eh.

I’m pretty sure ginger can’t read or understand what is written. The post was not a critiscm but an observation. As for Davis read what I wrote His endeavours very often came to nothing, he held on way too long and simply couldn’t see the pass quickly enough. I praised his strength and touch but you explain how he never got clear in on goal or the fact he was only a 60 minute man. He is a crock…. I have said all I need to say ref garner, dead ball specialist.

Interesting post Rutland. I think Cornet would be a good signing, some pace and trickery to complement the likes of Johnson and Mighten. But I can see the squad taking shape but with a dozen new signings to bed in it’s going to take time. I wonder how Surridge will do in the Prem, his movement might pull defences around a bit.

Good level headed post gingerkid42 I echo your sentiments to the word, we’ve had a lot of new players come in and go out it’s going to take more than 2 or 3 weeks for them to settle in and gel, cooper will know that he doesn’t have that much time to get everyone firing on all cylinders but I have no doubt he would have been mindful of that when signing so many new players……. friendlies are exactly that, I’d rather us lose all the friendly games and not score any goals if it means we go and beat or draw against Newcastle then go onto hammer the hammers at home, I have complete faith and confidence in cooper and Murphy to get it right for when the season starts…. we haven’t finished with signing players yet and haven’t even seen the first starting 11 play a game, patience my fellow reds patience, forgot to say good post Rutters with many bang on observations ??.

Rutland, i reckon he’s trying to get mighten, Cafu and Taylor moved on mate, hence why he’s playing them ?.
