The thread on stories is brilliant. I have two from my times in Nottingham centre.
I had an osteopath who later became a mate, big lad larger than life a bit like Dom jolly. He used recreational substances and partied like hell. I told him I was going to get tkts to see Steve Earle at rock city. He said I'll come too with my girlfriend, but he urged me not to get tkts as he knew the doorman at rock city a biker chap called RAT, you may have heard of him, I hadn't. Anyway I did not believe his waffle and got two tkts on line, it was around 2002 when Steve was touring transcendental blues. So the wife and I picked up osteopath and his chick and we drove to Nottingham. He was mad at me for buying tkts. I was relieved as I could see disaster looming at the door. But shocked when this hells angel greeted us giving osteopath a huge hug and turned to me saying, osteopath has told me all about you and entry is free with vip service and I have arranged for you to meet Steve at the after show party. Who would have thought?.?
Rat died recently and the tributes were heart warming.
The other was at the royal where the new wife got tkts to see Nigel Kennedy. Front row. got fist pumped a few times by Nigel but noticed the guitarist, yes it was a jazz fusion 4 seasons performance, he was introduced as Doug Boyle. Doug Boyle played with Robert plant on the now and zen tour etc. At the end of the show Doug was about to leave so i rudely shouted him over and wow over to me he came. How's plants I asked he laughed and said you remember, we had a great chat about his running off with Alana miles and how he was so fluent in Jazz bla bla. My mrs hates me for doing this but Doug was brilliant and genuinely loved that we loved his playing and his time with Robert. His shoes were tatty and his hair like a grey shredded wheat but a lovely bloke.

Agree2 Disagree0

As i mentioned 70s/ 80s i used to go to a load of gigs, i remember i followed tubeway army / gary numan around for a while up and down the country. He did a gig at Wembley arena. I went there with a girl whos parents were teachers and strict disciplinarians. TELEKOM was the tour. after the gig i tried to get backstage to meet numan. Showing off to this lass. I knew his main bouncer very well from other gigs. He got us backstage and we met numan. Nice lad he offered us back to his party, lift included all drink the works. After a little while she went into flap mode and wanted to get the train home. We only had a about half hour to get to the station. I remember getting on a london bus and politely asking the driver to put his foot on it and he did haha . Anyway missed the train had to sit at a bus station all night because we couldn't afford another train. Freezing cold. Ended up in a womens toilet trying to sleep. Dam if only we had stayed.

I've noticed since everyone is washing there hands again the peanuts at the bar have lost there taste 🤔.

I used to get in free at Rock City, from around 2001-2006 as I was in a band and knew most of the staff and bouncers. I knew Rat and Dexter and Mole (from Moletallica if anyone's aware) .

Was always good nipping back stage after a big gig and helping myself to some band's rider, been backstage with many bands/ acts, not that they knew who I was lol

Remember sitting with Duff McKagan, formerly of Guns n Roses, drinking a beer, smoking a herbal cigarette and talking utter shyte lol Wrote our bands name on the dressing room wall, in between Pantera and Motorhead signatures. Hope it's still there!

What instruments did you play sutton?

Getting into clubs in the 1960,a was made easy if you joined a rowing club. I belonged to Brittania next to the city ground, ours was the rough neck club full of tradesmen etc. Pay your £5 and you could get in any club in Nottingham free, and if your mates were behind the bar a cheap night . Some of the club's watered down drinks . I remember on Sunday painting in the bar and the paint was still wet when we open the club bar in the evening. We had some great acts performing, and also many up and coming stars calling on for a drink. Would not change my time again, awesome.

Watched a memories programme among or so ago and in it their were 8 not scouts half way between the goal and corner flag each end, and side of the goal in the 1966 world cup final. They were to assist or fetch anything the goalkeepers wanted. What a thing to do, loved to have been there. What would you give if you had a fully autographed programme of the final. I heard stories that someone has one, possibly a player.

Talking of Rock City. Anybody remember it when it was The Heart of the Midlands. I was a chef there for 5 years and met every celebrity imaginable from that era . Could spend weeks getting through every story. Just couple . taking Tommy Cooper a pot of black coffee before he was on, he was absolutely hammered on vodka . Went on stage 15 mins later and was world class you couldn't tell.
Going out on the piss with the Black Abbots ( Russ Abbott) and the Grumbleweeds on the last because I we gave them free food all week . Absolutely hilarious guys.
Tony Chistie (Amerillo) ordered a steak and came to the kitchen for it. I said that's 3 quid mate
He said do you know who i am (fatal with me) I just launched it at the wall plate and all and told him to f**k off . He was a big headed tw*t 🎈.

02 Dec 2021 16:35:05
😂😂😂 balloons, tommy cooper what a legend mate. Could never get away with the grumbleweeds in fact i'd have put weedkiller in there tea. Luv the tony Christie story. Did you carry on cheffing mate?

Yea Bowie went on to be head chef in a 5 star hotel in St Peter Port in Guernsey . Lived ther for 5 years. But couldn't by property there, so expensive unless your born there so came home. Got sick of working every Saturday and Sunday night so became a prison officer 🎈.

02 Dec 2021 17:42:03
Wow balloons did you notice my pic 😉 my mate went the other way, from a prison officer to a chef. I remember asking how he made the decision to turn the other way. He replied it was easy i just went to screwfix 🤔.

02 Dec 2021 19:36:09
🤣🤣🤣 legend Bowie 🎈.

02 Dec 2021 19:42:36
Obviously joking balloons, never been near a prison mate. Apart from a monopoly board .

02 Dec 2021 20:16:18
Balloons i love cooking matey, watch every cooking program on telly lol, what's your signature dish?

02 Dec 2021 21:05:53
in 1969 my mate willie past his car test, we would drive to trowle services most sat nights / sun mornings, you would see bands stopping off for coffee. one of us would be on the north side the other south. we regular saw slade, hawkwind, faces, trex, and sparks, i think the services were the called the blue boar back then it was a regular stop off for groups going home from clubs and town halls up and down the country. back then you could approach them and have a chat, no egos nothing, good days and worth stopping out most of the night.

02 Dec 2021 21:18:26
Keep getting me jealous simple. Sparks brilliant btw. As they all are you mentioned.

02 Dec 2021 21:26:19
on a football note, i see the yank who wants the sheep wants to do a deal with hmrc, he thinks 7mil would be fair not the 29mil due. well my friend the tax man over here don't do deals. they should chain the gates and put mel morris in prison. and i fancy forest to win 3 nil on sat.

Anything Chinese Bowie, can cook em all better than takeaways. Took years to uncover all the secrets of it tho.
My favorite french dish is steak au poivre just love peppercorn sauce.
Beef Wellinghton but substituting the £40 fillet of beef for £4 fillet of pork makes it affordable to all and a real treat.
Give it a go mate real show stopper to impress ya guests 🎈.

03 Dec 2021 08:16:34
Proud of ya balloons mate 👍👍.

03 Dec 2021 08:32:29
Isnt pork a dodgy one for a Wellington balloons? Your a chef. I know when doing beef a lot of people under cook the beef . Which i can get away with. But not undercooked pork 🤔.

03 Dec 2021 09:56:19
I was a frontman, Bowie, in a hardcore metal/ punk band (lol) called Element. Played with Earthtone9, Sikth, American Headcharge.

Then I was in Turnbarrel, which consisted of former members of Pitchshifter.

If anyone's ever heard of these bands lol.

03 Dec 2021 10:11:42
Gotta admit mate new to me them names. I know a lot of ex band members find it hard to give up playing. Do you still keep your eye in with local groups. And sutton who were your favourite bands?

03 Dec 2021 10:34:04
Bowie Wrap pork fillet in streaky bacon to keep moist and brown on all sides for 10 mins in a frying pan. when the puff pastry is cooked (30 mins) the pork will be well-done .
It's lots thinner than fillet beef.
Bon Apatite me duck. 🤣🎈.

03 Dec 2021 11:38:40
Thanks mate will definitely try it 👍.
