It looks like most clubs outside the Prem will not be making massive bids for players this transfer window. I wonder whether the club have decided that if they don't receive a HUGE bid for Johnson/ Worrall/ Mighten then better to build a team around them and spend small ourselves?
If you think about it, if other clubs won't be making big bids for players, then we won't have to spend big ourselves. We can probably bring in somebody at LB and RB on either loan or cheaper than normal. Other gaps in the squad similar with one obvious exception.
We desperately need a new striker I reckon. But if we don't sell big then the striker has to be a youngster so likely will be a loan. With Grabban, Taylor and Costa as third choice we are looking short of goals. It is possible that Mighten, Johnson and Lolley (if stays fit) can contribute a decent number of goals. But the front man/ men need to be getting into double figures as a minimum.
So I predict (if we don't sell), a squad something like this:
GK: Samba, Smith, Horvath
LB: Blackett, Cheapo/ Loan, Richardon/ Soh (cover)
RB: Gabriel, Richardson, Cheapo/ Loan
CB: Worrall, McKenna, Soh, Figs, Blackett (cover)
DM: Garner, Colback, Yates, Cafu
AM: Johnson, Mighten, Lolley, Jack Clarke (loan from Tottenham), Carvalho?
STR: Grabban, Taylor, New signing on loan but hopefully we have enough to pay a fee for a good prospect.
Just speculating, as we might get a huge fee for a player, but keeping our youngsters until we can get a bigger fee, post c.v., makes a lot of sense to me.

Seriously i do not want a player signed out of fear, he should either be young enough for a bigger fee being possible in the future or a player that is fit enough, and with a point to prove.

Very funny Forest. I know the term cheapo/ loan sounds as funny as it is meant to.
But seriously, I'd rather we spent the money on a fee for a decent, hungry striker. There have to be players around who can play at championship level in the squad of say Man U or Tottenham (who seem to rate or have connections with Hughton) who will be available to play in the full back positions. We are obviously trying to sign the Derby lad, but I can't help getting the feeling they would want more £ from us or another Championship side.

The other thing I'd say is a young team like that will finish the season a better side - with higher mvalue - than it starts. So rather than blow money in a pit for players without sell-on value after flogging a good prospect, we stick with youth.

12 million to sign Harry Wilson with a squad that already boasts mitrovic.
They can keep knockheart and Christie though.

The payments for relegation from the PL makes it easier for them to pay £12m for Wilson which is wrong.
We should be looking for a top ten finish this season and hoping for play off qualification.

Why should we be looking at a top ten?
We are weaker than last season especially full backs.
But the only way we will improve is for hughton to give youth a chance and be more adaptable to formations.

Providing Hughton and co do their jobs well enough reaching the top ten should be possible.
