Makes me laugh on here people talking about us signing 'cast offs' or 30 year olds, then others. Quoting clough, their memories must be playing tricks on them, or they weren't there, clough signed Peter withe, (multiple clubs) Colin Barrett not wanted at man c) , Larry Lloyd, (unwanted, considered trouble maker at cov) Kenny burns considered lunatic, ) frank Clarke, considered finished) terry Curran ( from 3rd div Doncaster) Sean haselgrave ( unwanted at stoke, ) john o'hare and McGovern ( unwanted at Leeds) so ' 'cast offs'can work,

Agree2 Disagree0

If you have a genius as manager who has picked the players himself . Slightly different situation these days at Forest it would seem. One of our best signings in recent years was McKenna so definitely nothing wrong with signing anyone from anywhere if the person signing them knows what they need to sign .

All we need now is a genius as dof .
And no pastoral red that's not short for death of football🤔
Times have changed guys and that's why you can't compare the past as the manager signed the players.
This lot are"sourced"by the dof.
We just haven't got the daddy of sources just red ketchup man, its cheap and you can just about get by.

Steveuef you make me laugh.
How can you compare player's of old to those today?
Wages during the clough years were nowhere near like they are now.
Also players back then wanted to play for their club not like these of today who show no passion and know the 30grand a week wil in their account.

Fawaz really don’t get the point you’re making, I’m merely pointing out that from largely cast offs a team was built to win the league, what’s wages got to do wth it?

Great post Stevie, what about Peter Withe scored the winner in the European cup final in 1982 at the age of 31.

16 Sep 2020 08:29:48
Stevie the difference is cloughie bought cast offs with the right character and were decent footballers. I mention cast offs a lot as they never were any good that we know of and are NOT WANTED by their current clubs.

16 Sep 2020 08:58:43
Skegbyred I thought clough got rid of withe a year too soon.

16 Sep 2020 09:05:05
Laymans terms stevie.
The cast offs we have are nowhere near as talented as the ones clough signed.
Different generation and mindset compared to todays players.
Wage wise. the players of yesteryear earned far less than those today and actually wanted to play for their clubs.
Todays players play half heartedly and don't give a care if they play their hearts out or just plod on.
Take bong of hefele. never play but get paid. no doubt not trying to impress during training.
Todays footballers are snowflakes in contrast to yesteryear players.

Rutland Coventry couldn’t wait to rid of Lloyd he was an expensive pain in the a**** there, o’hare and McGovern must have been the2 biggest outcasts in the history of football, at Leeds once clough had been sacked, Clark was on the verge of retirement, if we’d have been signing these type of players now you lot would have been moaning they were not good enough for them, they’re not good enough for us, I guarantee it,

16 Sep 2020 11:59:34
Definitely Stevie, Withe was an old fashioned centre forward with a great touch and bought other players into the game and a great understanding with Woodcock, his replacement for a few games was Steve Elliot if I remember right who wasn't anywhere near good enough, but along came Birtles and the rest is history.

Fawaz love it layman’s terms! I’m obviously struggling to keep up with your superior intellect mate so every little helps as they say, perhaps you could go a step further and and print your posts in capital letters? Gives me more of a chance😂.

16 Sep 2020 13:39:13
OKAY STEVIE THIS IS JUST FOR YOU.
I HOPE MY COMPREHENSION AND GRAMMAR IS CORRECT AND UP TO YOUR SUPERIOR STANDARDS.
I FIND IT HARD TO ASSIMILATE YOUR PHILOSOPHICAL POSTS AND TRY TO APPROACH THEM IN A MANNER THAT DIFFERS FROM YOU GENIUS DEMEANOUR.
ALSO MAY I ADD THE WAY YOU APPROACH YOUR POSTS IN SUCH A JOURNALISTIC FASHION EXEMPLIFIES POSTS THAT LESSER BEINGS HAVE CREATED.
IN SUMMARY YOU ARE GREAT! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😁🤣🤣.

16 Sep 2020 14:02:43
Fawaz sorry mate didn’t quite get that 😄.

16 Sep 2020 14:04:50
Fawaz how do you mean ‘ genius demeanor ‘? I am a genius! 😂😂.

16 Sep 2020 14:24:30
Its a shame boys but these are certainly different times, but I would have loved to have seen all of these modern day players coming up against the likes of kenny, Larry, mr psycho most of the Leeds side of old and chopper Harris from Chelsea . Would have loved to see the reaction to that lot chasing the modern players around, they would take a bit of catching, for a start, but they wouldn’t be able to hide all the time, especially in the times when you could put a tackle in . Now look what you’ve done got me reminiscing about proper football again, o well back to the modern stuff.

16 Sep 2020 15:53:07
Please don,t compareSir Brian with any other of our managers since , his genius was to get things out of players others could hope to do ,many of the squad didn’t like him personally but knew he knew how to use them and respected him for that and put everything in nearly every game ,so other manager of the time got near this.
CARLO

16 Sep 2020 16:17:59
That is right, Martin O'Neil once said, would i ever had a drink in a pub with Clough, no but on the pitch i would run through a brick wall for him.

16 Sep 2020 17:28:23
Carlo wasn’t comparing managers, but so called cast off players he forged into a team.

16 Sep 2020 18:21:27
No Stevie. you are a GENIUS. 😁👍.

16 Sep 2020 19:18:09
Carlo said the many of players did not like Clough but respected him because he knew how to use them.
