So the new idea from the football authorities is to complete the season in July behind closed doors.
Just end it now start again with the advantage of where you finished and points intact.
It would be impossible to start a new season in October and fit in the international breaks plus euro 2020 in 21 it would entail playing three games a week.

Why do the people that run football think they are a special case and can't accept that life comes before a game of football?
They haven't even worked out how you can ask players to play when their contracts have expired in June.
The suits that run our game really are special.

Sports are meant to be entertainment. If there is no one there to be entertained then it ceases to be a sport. Null and void the whole season and start the next season at the earliest opportunity.

{Ed001's Note - but what happens if you can't start next season until say February. You aren't going to squeeze in a full season then. Then it would be best to pick up from where we left off. There is no point anyone making a decision until we actually know when it can restart. Any decision now could end up looking stupid ten months down the line. There is simply not enough information and any decision made will be made based on guesswork.}

Null and void anyway just so Liverpool don't win the league. HAHAHA.
Joking aside, though. Valid point, Ed. I didn't really think it through, did I.

{Ed001's Note - you know what I was the only one I know who refused to accept it was won, so I am ok if they null and void it - I expected it. As soon as Ed666 told me he bought tickets for the end of season parade, I knew it was jinxed as he is a Jonah! He did the same last year and I told him then it would kill the chances. I think he might believe me now though. Personally I would rather null and void than the title was awarded when it is not yet actually won.

As for the league restart, there are some (Imperial College to be precise) predicting social distancing will need to be maintained for up to 18 months. But Trump says everything will be back to normal next week so we should be ok!}

Thing is edd social distancing for a period that long won't happen as it's not sustainable financially or mentally for society.

{Ed001's Note - only time will tell on that though mate. We don't know as we have never been in a situation like this before. Perhaps we will just become used to it and it will become the new normal?}

I don't see any problem with just finishing the season late. A lot of the players would have played over the summer anyway. Everybody else will also have to continue their jobs where they left off. It isn't like we don't start building the house from where we left off or teaching the kids what they still haven't learned. Football doesn't think it is a special case at all.

Basically, the legal implications, funding implications and the fairness of sport all dictate that we finish the season. There is no sensible reason why seasons have to start and finish when they do anyway.

Chill out. And people who are worried about renewing season tickets can relax too. You will get to watch the whole of next season even if the dates change a bit. If you love the club then you surely don't want to let it go bust so byuy your tickets.

{Ed001's Note - but what about those who don't know if they have a job to go back to? How can you just say relax when people might need that money to survive over the next few months.}

The people that run football do though cyclist.
As long as social distancing is in place then football can't be played even behind closed doors.

29 Mar 2020 12:07:06
Probably just best to wait and see what happens and keep your knickers/ g-string untwisted until there is some concrete plan.

I don't think anyone has any idea of how long this will go on for at the moment, hope everyone can keep their health and sanity in the meantime.

29 Mar 2020 12:28:31
I’m with you red cyclist, you can’t void a season this far into it, crazy talk. Players need to be ready for 3 games a week and full squads to be used.9 games, 3 weeks.

29 Mar 2020 14:01:53
I'm not talking about resuming the season before they can. I just mean we finish the season when it is possible - whenever that is. There is no reason to not do so. And I agree with perks. we can play 9 games in 3 weeks. I'd play one every day for £5K a week.

But we don't even have to play that many in a short space of time. Just play them when we can. Start the next season late if we have to but stop this nonsense about not finishing the season. It will just be years and years of court battles if we don't which will kill football and destroy businesses - not to mention filling the lawyers bloated bank accounts while everyone struggles to get over the economics of the crisis.

If you can't afford to renew your season ticket then don't. If you can then it will help the club so why not do it? I'm not suggesting anyone does anything stupid obviously. But if you buy a season ticket you can watch the games when the next season starts even if it is late. I'm sure the club will give everyone their seats back next season if it can.

I didn't mean don't worry about Coronavirus impact on your lives folks. I mean don't have worries about football that are not necessary. It might do the game good in the long run if it has a financial reality check. The economics of it are that English football is better equipped than most other countries to get through this.

{Ed001's Note - just checking mate. Sometimes when people are well off they forget that others are not in the same position. Not saying you are well off, impossible to tell from here, but just didn't want it to seem like people should be pressured to buy even if they can't afford it.

I agree totally on the final paragraph, most other countries, maybe other than Germany, are going to struggle even in the top flight to survive.}

Not that simple though perks because the season would have to finish before 30th June otherwise all loan players and out of contract players would not be eligible to play.
The players would need at least two weeks training to get match fit again once social distancing is lifted.

29 Mar 2020 17:16:42
Just roll contracts onto a month by month basis. Players should be keeping themselves fit. Every team is in the same boat. Just get on with it when we get the go ahead. It’s a squad game and should have to use all players available to get through 9 games.

29 Mar 2020 17:34:38
But players aren't that easy to please finicially and our coach has his contract up as well and then you have to renegotiate loan deals.
It's going to be very difficult to restart and the hardest hit countries like Italy and Spain probably won't.
