I posted recently, the club supposedly scouted him on Friday are considering offering £2m for him, i think it will take more than that. It is all about how much he will cost as to whether or not we go for him, Cummings did not work out but he did not cost much either. Shankland would be worth a punt, but no more than £4m, but would the club want to spend so much?

Aparantly we looked at him last season. 1m was quoted then when he was with Ayr Utd.
That was the time to take a punt on him. Others will be looking now he's proved himself at a higher level.

If we looked at him last season then our supposed interest could be a lazy sod rehashing. I would suggest if we looked at him last season i doubt we would take another look.

{Ed007's Note - I missed Gazzibaldi's post but Ayr and Dundee Utd are in the same league mate with Utd in front of them at the top by 6 points. If you are going to bid you won't need to bid anywhere near £4 million, (for a Scottish 2nd Division player??) that's Dundee Utd's entire annual budget, so you could still probably get him for £1 - £1.5 million and fire some add-ons onto that.
It's a huge step up from the Scottish 2nd Division to the English Championship and the only time he's played at a higher level was at Aberdeen where he failed to score a single goal in about 20 games.}

So Ed007 are you saying he has found his level and even at £1.5m he would be a waste of money,or do you feel he has improved enough since his Aberdeen days he could make it in the Championship?

{Ed007's Note - Shankland turns 25 in August so it's not like he's a kid any more and it's difficult to judge if he's improved because he's played at such a low level - the 2nd and 3rd Division - for the majority of his career. At a price of £1.5 million he is probably worth the gamble but I can't see him as any more than a squad player at your level, the press up here have linked him with a move to Celtic but for me he'd be our 3rd choice striker at best.}

After what you have said i can not see Forest's interest being genuine, if he in your opinion would only be third choice at Celtic in his mid twenties he would not be worth a punt.

Agreed walking when if and when we sign players they have to be an improvement on what we have not to have a punt on a player for me this is our best chance in a long time of getting to the promised land so we need to sign better players.

I think Tyler Walker is a better bet and will cost us nothing!
