On the evidence of last night, unless something changes we are in for a pretty similar season to last season, nest in possession, but crippling lack of pace throughout the team, Silva looks to have quality, but this under cooked sociadad team let us play, a luxury we will not get in the championship, sadly admittedly on the evidence of 1 game I don't expect an auto promotion push, hopefully we can get a desperately needed striker in an hang around the top 6, finding it difficult to be optimistic,

Agree0 Disagree0

Skegs it was an open friendly, they seemed to get on top after they made about 8changes at one go, I don’t see much difference from this stage last year, only this time last year people were raving about the 3 amigos,

Stevie f, This time last year we played a lot more passes sideways and backwards than yesterday but way too early to make predictions about either any players or the team as Sabri stated he wants 3 more players at least, that if it were to happen could change everything.

Lc 3decent signings would change the complexion of any team, but why is everything left so late I wonder?

I don’t think this Real Sociedad did let us play. They were actually quite good at the dark arts and were being rough with Silva. Taking him out at every opportunity. I thought they were good technically as well. Compared to last season we are definitely set up to be more attacking. That obv means we will be more susceptible to counter attack’s. I agree we are lacking pace. I think the manager missed a trick by putting Ameobi in a central position (think he needs to stay on the wing) . Overall i haven’t got a clue how we will perform in the champ.

Stevie f it's not just us that leaves it late to complete signings. Owners, managers, agents and players hold out as long as possible in the hope of getting the best deal that they can. We can expect a flurry of transfer activity as the window closes. This is the norm. It's business, I'm afraid and it's the devil that is the transfer window.

Trying not to pay over the odds?

stevie, I think the players like Zaha, fernandez etc know if they keep there names in the paper til the last few days they get more offers and money if your not one of the big clubs they keep you waiting . they have so much power now its ridiculous (£1m a week for Bale ) . anybody who hasn't heard it youtube Dean Saunders story of how Cloughie got him to sign for us, funny story and shows you how much things have changed!

Shepp
In relation to the Saunders story it has been proven times many to be, for the most part total and utter fabrication from a, in my humble opinion, a nasty character seeking cheap laughs at the expense of a legendary figure in the throes of alcholism.

I'm afraid that any mention of this is guaranteed to raise my hackles and results in diatribes such as this.

Saunders is for me a cheap nasty vindictive little man. FULL STOP.

{Ed001's Note - Saunders admitted he made it all up to get him work as an after dinner speaker. It is a complete lie but I would expect nothing else from Saunders, horrible man who is not known for his honesty.}

Read that Shepp a while back apparently it was all baloney and not true at all. can't remember who said it but also makes for good reading.

{Ed001's Note - he admitted it Cig. His whole after dinner speaking routine is mainly bull.}
