I see karanka has told Portuguese newspapers he left of his own accord and basically it was down to the fact that it was unreasonable for the owners to expect promotion after a short period from avoiding relegation,he wanted the two and a half years to do it.
In teresting what he has to say about the Portuguese lads ,I agree with him that fits and carvalho did ok,but disagree that dias played well at all and goncalves he thinks is a talent.

He set himself for a fall, when you join a club with a ambitious owner, which that must have been something that was evident when Aitor was interviewed, you must understand that when given about ten players in January, then another seven or eight in the summer that is not done as part of the owner playing a long game to win promotion, it has been done with the expectation of being in the mix of a promotion push, ie the being actually in the top six.

Yes we had injuries to some of our players but after bringing in seventeen, or eighteen players having a squad of about forty odd, and most teams at some point losing their best players to injury and suspension is has to expected going on a losing run which pushes the team further away from the play off places is going to make the club owner restless.

We were in the mix and the players signed were cack. No right to expect promotion with those players . Anyway all in the past now. I’ll be behind MON and Roy come August .

2star, When he left we were falling away from the play offs, we could not win two games on the trot, and if the players that were signed were cack then they should not have been signed.

If he felt he had the backing to take two and a half years to complete the job, otherwise why take the job when it was his expectation to get it, why did he go for the short term approach of bringing in the Quantity of players he did.

As i said, as a manager you can not expect the backing he got and think the owner is thinking long term.

The previous manager wanted two and a half years to take us to the Premier league, that is fair enough as we were in a mess but if that is what he wanted why did he keep Murphy once the summer came, why did he bring in Watson, Guedeolia, and Grabban, all players at a age that were not going to be around for two and half years due to their ages.

I don’t dispute any of that but we were still in the mux

26 May 2019 07:44:28
We were only in the mix or mux 2 star due most teams around us dropping vital points it was a very tight league and we could of been easily dragged down to where we have been the last few years. If we were really contenders then a run like villa had would of stuck us in the mix not relying on others to drop points for us to scrape in.
Let's hope for a positive closed season with the correct balance of out and ins and then a good positive pre season to quickly establish our best team and formation to start off in the right way instead of the usual trying formations and last min transfers needing match fitness etc.

With Aitor we saw flashes of what the team could be like at times, but no consistency, a suspect defence, and players just not capable enough in the Championship. We were 7th? when he left, and got back to 9th which is not too bad. MON/RK have seen the problems and put in short term solutions then experimented with the set up and tactics on the field. We might not have a brilliant start to the next season, but we again have to be patient until we get the team right with the best personnel and systems, keep backing owner and management, and not worry if there are blips. It's doubly important that Marinakis and O'Neill see eye to eye and get on with each other, because that trust will breathe confidence throughout the club.

Let's hope next season we don't spend all our time in the summer talking about what could of been if this and that didn't happen time to move on and a lot to look forward to 😁🍺

Would that be due too most teams or due most teams ? We were in the mix and could have easily gone on the same run as others in the top half did in the New Year, equally we could have fell away. I’ve said it many times before Karanka fluffed some key games that could have yielded the extra points that would have meant we were well in the running instead of being in the mix.

Aitor's mistake was trying to change too many things in one go, patience has to come from the manager as well as the fans, and the owner.

Aitor was just a mistake ,job done
