We talk a lot about good managers and the football style. Well what makes a good manager? Good players, simples. Mourhino and pep for example only managed big clubs with good players, big budgets. I don't care how good a manager may be on paper he is on a day to day without good players. You get lucky managers who inherit a decent team tweak a little and their managerial qualities flourish, leeds, norwich, brentford, wolves have all got so called worldy managers but the players at the clubs were good. Our problem is glaringly obvious. We simply have very little star quality and little in the making. Basically the foundations are weak, very weak. We have brought in players that no other club wants, some have done ok like PK, and christie, but are they the committed dyed in the wool mainstay of a good team? I hear we are interested in Asombalonga. Why?
This is the sort of player we should avoid. Not just for his dimminishing influence due to his injury but listen to warnock. " asombalonga is not the future and can leave "
If boro don't want him their is very good reason, they don't want a fee and they have not even offered him reduced terms. In other words they don't rate or want him at any cost. Tells you something. Hughton could well be a good manager and we need calm careful selection this summer. We might not get enough to challenge top six but it needs to be very selective. The youth needs integration too and not selling. See if these lads can step up. I would rather give them a go than bring in more bargain basement castoffs. With rumours that krovinivic is being touted to return indicates that we are shopping in the market stalls again, PK made an impact in his first few games but increasingly he became out foxed out punched and bundled out of the games and he had little to no end product. let's hope its a rumour and that tge focus behind the scenes is on quality and thst the work on this started months ago!

Boro don't want him because of his wages, he was bought in with parachute money hoping for a quick return, now they can no longer afford his 40k a week.
No doubt he will have to expect less a week as no one in the championship can afford 40k a week, so on a free transfer and on the right wages would be a good signing.

When Mourinho was at Porto his team beat Fergusons Man Utd team having spent a fraction of the money that Ferguson had.

I do not want Baracus either.

Porto were already a good team. I knew thay isdue would come up. And ferguson was under pressure at utd in his first 4 years. They were crap with dour football. Mark Robins gave him a stay of execution whilst fergie delved into the youth team etc.

Ff79 britt is a free agent. So 47 goals in 159 matches not a good return on £15mil and £40k per week. They did not even offer him a deal, that's how highly they rate him. Would he have taken £10-15k per week, as that is all he might be worth to stay at Boro? No one will pay more thsn that for his services. I still maintain he is not the player we should be looking to. a striker when not scoring adds little else we have that in Grabban. Ched evans displayed what championship strikers should offer when not scoring. Lessons should be learned.

I would have him, as I think there's 3 good years left in him.15 grand a week, makes sense to me if it happened.

When Porto beat Man Utd it was Fergusons 100th game in the Champions league. 🤣🤣🤣.

4 years?, now some are lucky to get 4 months.

So Rutland are you saying that Porto under Mourinho had already a team of expensive superstars and all he had to do was show up to training to get them to beat Fergusons Utd.?

GF no they were good players. That is my point simple.

Rutland before managing Porto he managed a club called Leiria and in twenty three matches averaged 1.91 points per game.

Britt is definitely worth getting on a free. Far better than what we have.

Sometimes teams let players go because they have plans for players they have and want a certain wage bill. If you don't rate Britt then you must think our players are complete sh1te!

He has played for us before, we already have too many on high wages, no way will he drop from £40,000 a week to less than £30,000 a week.

The team needs someone that has pace, that links up play, and scores often enough that when added to other players goals we are going to be feared.

The team also needs a energetic forward with pace that pull players out of position.

I do not think he meets either of those scenarios.

We need a "Fox In The Box". he fits the bill.

That does suit the managers system Rogie.

I actually do think our players are sh#te and don't rate btitt. Each to there own. Worrall let's face it is half decent. But shines because the rest are sh#te.

Assombalonga isn't going to be on any wages from June. He will just have to take what is the best deal he can negotiate as he will be out of contract. Yes, Britt has played for us before and was very successful.

He would, without a shadow of doubt, do better than the players we have if he is fit and firing and comes back.

I think they will try to sign Britt or Wyke (or a similar proven goal scorer with experience) and another younger player for strikers. If they don't then I'll be surprised.

I feel you are being naive RedCyclist.

You come across as only a couple of clubs will be interested in him and he will feel cornered and accept less than half of his current wages for fear of not getting a team otherwise.

There will be several clubs interested in him, he and his agent will work one against the other until he is too expensive for the likes of Forest.

18.) 31 May 2021
31 May 2021 21:33:27
Britt is no fox in the box. Grabban was. He is lazy too. And warnock could not trust him. He is just another player which ever way you wrap it. Boro do not want him so why should we?
1 in 3.4 games? Not good enough and has the attitude of grabban.

19.) 01 Jun 2021
01 Jun 2021 08:56:32
I'm not being naive. Proven goal-scorers are not cheap. He won't get the wages he was on before. Ones who don't need a fee are cheaper than proven goal-scorers who are free agents. That is obvious.

As for Assombalonga's goal ratio, it is better than every player in our squad apart from Mighten.

Naive is to think we can afford a better, proven goal-scorer, for a fee, who has also scored more often at the level Assombalonga has. Reality check.

If I'm right and we are going for a proven player at this level AND a younger player then we have to go for players similar to Assombalonga or go back to signing risky foreign players or old codgers. Most of us have already decided we have tried the latter and it doesn't work.

Naively: "We could sign a top, world-beating Premier league player on really low wages. " Except that is not possible!

Comprende?

That is where you are being naive, a free agents agent will say to a club, you are not having to pay a club a fee for my player so i want either a signing on fee as well as his normal wages, or i want his wages to be higher than normal.

Even if you take the c.v. into account and he would drop down to £30,000 from £40,000 plus a signing on fee that is too expensive for Nottingham Forest.

You say Mighten has a better goal ratio, how much will Mightens wages be yet he has a better goal ratio that hurts your argument, we may aswell get a bit younger player and give him time.

Reading through yesterday's comments, some good valid points made on both sides of the discussion. A fit in form Britt would be an good asset, an injury prone Britt certainly would not, his wages would be better off spent elsewhere. Also, our main problem is creating chances, Britt would of looked as bad as Grabban if he was in last seasons team.

22.) 01 Jun 2021
01 Jun 2021 10:38:46
We can't not sign anyone because they would have looked bad last season. That would be silly.

RedCyclist their point is it is more important to bring in creative players so the strikers would be getting much better service.
