Btw the north shields fish quay, is where i worked from around 13 yr old until my 1st real job at 16 for the port of tyne. 1976 . School give up on me wagging it. So did my ma n da. Worked hard . Allays knew the basics of maths n English would carry me through life which they did tbh. i was more than decent at both. Or thought i was looking at them surrounding me . Hard life. But just felt great amongst the hardened trawlermen telling me there story's of the sea etc ?. The restaurant was yards away from the low lights. The bar his manager found sam fender. Working behind the bar at the time. Got told he was a music man and played to impress. Rest is history. Big in America apparently i mean wtf a geordie . Well the wife understands me i suppose. Daughter knows him well . Canny lad bud loves the snow so enjoy life in the fast lane son. Let ya work out snow you oldies . Sorry just reminiscing COYR.

Bowie, you went and worked in a mans world, it makes you grow up straight away. I did the same, out of school then down a coal mine, the making of me. Young adults nowadays, far too soft, they want everything put on a plate for them. Couldn't imagine my 2 lads down the pit or on the quayside. They have however followed me in my love for our football team, so not all bad. As for Mr Fender, it would be more of a headline if a pop star wasn't taking or snorting.

Great story Bowie and insight into your life growing up sounds like you had a interesting life as a young un and the snow never did me any favours did it ? hope your still on the mend mate? Mv red your spot on, kids now days don’t know there born, I left school at 16 and went straight onto the building site to work as a labourer for for 3 years with most of my work mates being ex cons, which was ironic as we was building the new police station and cell block at Mansfield, funny enough the cell block I was building I was to find my self locked up in a few years later……. talk about bricking yourself in ? toughened me up though.

? nice one jolly. Yeah hard work on the building sites labouring mate done that for couple of year. Problem i had was finding the next job as you go self employed. On the quay i used to load the fish boxes onto the wagon a lot at the ice house. Hard work kept ya fit though. Worked nights.

Sounds like cold and back breaking work mate you have my greatest respect sir, hope your health isn’t in question any more my friend and your ready and fighting fit for the start of the new season, I remember watching a program on the bbc about the ladies working on the quays at South/ north Shields gutting and cleaning the fish, them girls have my full respect as it was amazing how many fish they gutted and cleaned in a shift in what would have been freezing and cold temperatures…. them GORDIE lasses ain’t half tough so big respect to them.
