OOPs fat fingers.

Vellios, Cummings, Tachtsidis , Clough ,Grant, Ariyibi etc.

As far as I can glean we will lose two players this summer in Henderson and Ward as a result of expired contracts with the remainder of the squad having at least one year to run which presents the problem of what to do with them.

Quite frankly many of those players are unlikely to attract any kind of bid because as far as I can tell they have not exactly covered themselves in glory at their loan clubs , Walker being the glaring difference, and even if they were offered free transfers the question of how much they are being paid will become a factor.

There can be no real argument that we do need to thin down the squad but it may well be that this will result in payers being paid up and contracts terminated which I think may well have impications with the dreaded FFP which may well mean us having to keep players for another year that are not wanted.

The top heavy squad we have has been built up over a couple of years with Mr Karanka in particular signing a large number BUT it has to be pointed out that someone within the structure of the club had to agree and sign off on these contracts and to put the responsibility at one individuals door is patently unfair.

I think by and large without going into specifics and possibly with the odd exception , Carvalho for example , we would all agree that we would release more
than we would keep but I question if this is a realistic possibility purely from a financial point of view.

This is a far from uplifting post and I am a glass half full person but I cannot see it any other way at the moment and do not envy whoever has to sort things out even BEFORE new signings are looked at.

However
As always . .
