I believe and yes I am a mind reader 🙄 Mon wanted a fairytale ending for his career at his beloved Forest (who he turned down for bigger clubs) of a 18 month contract 6 months to steady the ship maybe a playoff visit then big clear out and purchase his new squad and run away with the championship to the promised land of the prem then retire on a high and a managerial legend and leave it to Roy to carry on or fail. OR IS THIS WHAT WE DREAM OF🤔👍

Brain Clough said something like, if god wanted football to be played in the air he would have put a pitch up there.

Martin won a lot playing the game how it should be played playing under the great pairing of Clough and Taylor, sadly he has abandoned their teachings, if they were alive they would despair as i and some others do.

Did you miss the the football his Celtic team played? Despite everything you read about Clough Shilton mostly kicked the ball long. The thing about Clough was that the team were good enough to win the second ball and play from the half way line. He did also have his team defend well and at times deep but had a team full of pace who could break quickly. We haven't got the players to do either hence everyone's idea of perfect football is just not possible with this team. We need to get real and not in some fantasy football land of change manager and all these underperformers will suddenly become world beaters.

Syred, you’re absolutely right mate ,clough played a mixture of long ball and incisive passing from the half way line . With the right players it’s the same style. I remember everyone saying Billy Davies played hoof ball - I reality he didn’t . Personally not interested in tapping the ball aroukd in your own half .

2star, I agree, i do not like keeping possession just for possessions sake.

When you have the ball look to use it to force the other team into making mistakes.

It is true that a lot has changed since Warby, where everyone on here was despising tippy-tappy football with passes sideways and backwards just to keep the ball and not getting anywhere. Let's just hope for a top 10 finish this year and a great clear-out and new players to take us forward. I'm not sure it's going to work that way, but we can always hope.

Syred, having looked up what you said about Martin at Celtic, he left them in 2005, that is fourteen years (14) years ago. That is a lot of football played since then, and most of it rubbish.

If you don't like seeing clubs pass the ball around in their own half, then your saying?
Liverpool
Man city
Barcelona
Juventus
And many more don't entertain you then?
It's simple while you have the ball the opposition can't hurt you,the trick is not to give it away with bad passing

Ff, The difference with some of those teams is when they have the ball they pass it with purpose, constantly looking to put the opposition under pressure to make them make mistakes, yes they are better at keeping the ball than our players, that is why they play in the top leagues in Europe.

Under both Aitor and Warburton in some games we had sixty percent of the possession, the team did very little with it, they seemed to treat it as a light training session. Not looking to put teams under pressure to make them make mistakes, but waited, waited, and waited, hoping the other team would make mistakes.

There is a massive difference between the two.
