Appiah has said that playing in the first team was a big step up from the U23s, that the speed of the game is so much quicker, he went on to say he has done plenty of gym work, and sought advice from within the club and now feels both physically and technically ready to play in the Championship.

Hi LC, I can’t say I saw much evidence of that on Saturday , he looked devoid of ideas and courage, bit like the rest of them really. I don’t see walker, Yates, Appiah and Worrall as part of future. One of them perhaps but it feels like it’s more idealistic than reality these days. The five mentioned are nowhere near the level that Reid, jenas, prutton, Morgan, Dawson, Harwood and Williams were at. Or maybe it’s just that the league has got stronger as more teams come down with strong squads and a few seasons of help to pay for them. I can’t honestly I feel a jot of excitement when I watch Grant, Yates, Walker, Worrall, Appiah, Smith and Gomis. I wonder if we’ve got the right calibre of coach because what’s being churned our is just not cutting it for me . Wanting them to be good doesn’t mean they will be and I think we’ve all been blinded by the spin about the investment in the ND academy when really it has been used to persuade us that youth is the way forward as a defence to years of under investment in ten squad.

Past players have excited me but not these, Walker with 24 goals perhaps deserves another look as that’s a good goals tally in any league. Sorry if that’s a bit negative but if these guys are our future then I want my money back. Anymore than 2 in the first team is unacceptable, naive and foolish.

2star I agree with a lot of what you have said.

then what is the point of having a youth set if you feel that none of them will ever be good enough for the first , looking at things st the minute they couldn't do a worse job, forest used to pride themselves on home grown talent and long may it continue

Dan, You have misunderstood the point, the young players today have talent, but they do not seem to be as talented as young Forest players gone by, and perhaps the club should be prepared to pay a bigger wage to try and attract better coaches.

I can see how you could read it either way. I do agree that we may as well not have it unless we improve the quality Coming out of it . I’m hoping Cohen can change that mate

Some begged for Yates, youthful enthusiasm but easily by-passed in this league. On balance AK was right not to play him.

According to the commentators on the I follow website, the only reason Appiah didn't play so well was that every time he got the ball he was fouled, so he had no chance to do anything. There were always two or three men at him, and the ref. failed to protect him.
